Role Summary/Purpose

As a Research Engineer – Lifing/Durability in the Mechanics & Design Organization, you will contribute to the development of state-of-the-art lifing analysis methods (e.g., fatigue, fracture mechanics, creep, etc.), advanced test methods and engineering design tools for a wide variety of applications across the GE businesses.  

Essential Responsibilities

You will:

·  Collaborate with GE business design communities in the development of component models, stress analysis and lifing methods for advanced CMC, barrier coatings and metals lifing.
·  Provide technical guidance and execution on critical programs and initiatives in the development of advanced lifing methodologies, stress methods or microstructure based property prediction on high strength metals and non-metals with key business partners.
·  Participate in technology roadmapping and competitive assessment to drive new technology programs in computational or experimental methods in the design and lifing of machinery and equipment.
·  Provide technical guidance and direction across the group to grow overall technical capability and product knowledge in technical focus areas.
·  Serve as a technical resource to resolve key, short term high risk technical issues in technical focus areas.
·  Deliver effective presentations, reports and publications to engineering staff, GE businesses and external agencies.

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines with at least 3 years of experience in an industrial environment. 
·  Experience in applied fracture mechanics, microstructure-based property prediction and/or damage model development. 
·  Experience in developing life prediction models and methods for high temperature single crystal metals or ceramic matrix composites
·  Strong technical skills in solid mechanics and finite element methods with commercial packages such as ANSYS (including advanced meshing tools and non-linear analysis) for life prediction. 
·  Demonstrated project leadership experience including successful track record of completing deliverables. 
·  Clear evidence of passion, innovation and creativity. 
·  Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; execution mindset and sense of urgency. 
·  Strong communication and teamwork skills and ability to form and work in cross-functional and cross-organizational teams.
