Role Summary/Purpose

The successful Interns will join our Software Projects/Services team, who deliver GIS software (Smallworld) projects to key customers in the electricity, telecom, gas and water industries.
Essential Responsibilities

·  Project Delivery

·  Data / Business Analysis

·  Very customer focused role

·  This is a fast paced, dynamic pan-European team responsible for the delivery of major projects to key GE accounts, working in diverse teams

·  Interns will be involved in all aspects of software project delivery, including business analysis, product installation and configuration, application development, testing and training and the preparation of documentation to support these activities

·  Interns may also be involved in pre-sales opportunities to provide technical support and contributions to pre-sales submissions, demonstrations and presentations

·  Interns will get exposure to the software development methodologies (Agile) – working on certain parts of the cycle with relevant team members; they may even get the opportunity to lead certain projects related to this

·  Opportunity to work in cross-functional teams alongside Engineering, Sales and Commercial teams

·  Interns will code, script and configure bespoke solutions on our core technology and products

·  All interns participate in Further Skills Programme – developing business skills outside of customer projects

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Degree of Study: Computer Science, Geography, Geographic Information Science, Electronic Engineering, Maths, Physics or similar with software development modules.

·  Plus, experience / interest in computer programming, e.g. Java, C++ or similar

·  2:1 degree grade or above (or equivalent) predicted or obtained

·  Degree subject relevant for the business area applied for

·  Good written communication skills – there should be little or no spelling and grammatical errors in their application

·  Eligibility to undertake placement - the internship is for 12 months and will begin between June and August 2020, all candidates should confirm on their application that they are available for this time period

·  Right to work – candidates who are studying on a visa need to confirm that they are on a tier 4 visa which is valid for their placement and the remainder of their degree course

·  Interns will ideally (not essential) have: some non-academic/extra-curricular experience - i.e. sports team, charity, employment

·  Some limited travel to customer sites in Europe, typically accompanied by a Project Technical Leader

·  Databases, data modelling and SQL

·  Software development methodologies (e.g. Agile)
