Role Summary/Purpose
The Principal Engineer, Grid Code Compliance Testing team within the Energy Consulting organization works across several other teams and cross functionally. Energy Consulting offers our global clients a wide range of solutions across power generation, delivery and utilization.
Essential Responsibilities
Principal Engineer, Grid Code Compliance Testing, you will:
· Execute (proposing, negotiating, planning, leading and reporting out) tests at customer power plants to assist in meeting evolving regulatory standards for steady-state performance, dynamic performance and modeling
· Communicate effectively with clients to support their testing and/or compliance needs, and resolve issues promptly
· Support GE project(s) with power systems engineering expertise, including design and equipment specification studies, and commissioning support
· Support continuous development of generation products based on evolving codes and standards
· Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized
· Mentor team of engineers in support of GE and non-GE power generation customers
· Contribute to the development of new tools and improvement of existing tools used by the team
· Actively participate in identifying and cultivating new customers and business
· opportunities, leading preparation of proposals, project creation / assignment, billing and closing
· Review technical reports for team prior to submittal to customers
Qualifications/Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in electrical, or electric power engineering from an accredited university or college
· Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in engineering, product management and/or a related function ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability and willingness to travel 30% of the time domestically and internationally
Desired Characteristics
· Advanced Degree (Master or PhD) in electrical, or electric power engineering from an accredited university or college
· Demonstrated knowledge in electrical or electric power engineering, conventional and renewable power plant design / operation
· Load flow, dynamic, short circuit and protection modelling and analyses.
· Understanding of transmission planning, grid systems interactions with power plant equipment and controls and FACTS equipment (minimum of five years of experience)
· Field experience with OEM Thermal power generation turbine and excitation control systems (minimum of one-year experience)
· Proficiency performing power systems analysis using dynamic/transient simulation and other analytical tools such as PSLF, PSS/e, PowerFactory, PowerWorld, Aspen One-Liner and MATLAB
· Active participation within industry professional societies, such as IEEE or other industry stature.
· Demonstrated capability to complete projects on-time and on-budget as either individual contributor or project manager
· Demonstrated technical leadership in creating winning proposals and managing delivery of large projects
· Demonstrated ability to perform engineering analysis and design, develop engineering solutions in a team environment, and to provide technical consulting services to customers
· Familiarity with NERC and global Grid Code Compliance Standards, and power plant testing requirements.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams to high value technical solutions
· Proficiency with office productivity software (e.g., MS Office, Visio, MS Project)
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g., ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer / plant staff)
· Passion for working in an open, sharing and supportive environment where colleagues welcome opportunities to assist each other
· Six Sigma training certification or equivalent Quality certification
· Strong project management skills
