Role Summary/Purpose

The Operator in Training is an entry-level position under the direction of Shift Supervisor and Outside Operator for stationary engines and mechanical equipment which provide facility with electrical power using gas and steam turbine technology. The stationary engines and mechanical equipment include gas turbine engines, steam turbines, diesel engines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, air compressors, motors, pumps, etc.
Essential Responsibilities

As the Operator in Training, you will:

·  Assist with water testing and chemical treatmentMaintenance of chemical inventory, testing standards, equipment, lab and treatment record keeping
·  Posses knowledge of meters, gauges and automatic recording devices to verify operating condition
·  Record data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels, analysis of flue gases, voltage load, generator balance, chemical levels and water chemistry
·  Respond to variances as instructed by the Shift Supervisor to perform adjustments to manual controls or override automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment as required using plant operating procedures
·  Assist with performing routine maintenance of equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, gauges, oil and lubricate and cleaning or replacing other component parts as required
·  Posses experience or knowledge with technical manuals, piping systems and preparation of purchase orders to order replacement parts or materials and work orders to initiate repairs on equipment
Qualifications/Requirements

·  High School Degree and/or GED with a minimum of 2 years of related industrial experience ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

·  Ability to work a rotating shift schedule and overtime
·  Must possess a valid driver's license
·  Willingness to complete a physical evaluation to facilitate use of a respirator on an annual basis
·  Must be able to climb ladders and stairs
·  Ability to walk / stand for up to 12 hours
·  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Desired Characteristics

·  Minimum of 2 years of Operations & Maintenance experience in a Power Plant
·  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
·  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
·  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
·  Demonstrated communication skills with all levels of an organization, both written and verbal
·  Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications
·  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
·  Ability to deal with multiple variables and to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions furnished in mathematical or diagram form
·  Ability to accept coaching and to work calmly and effectively in a high-stress work environment
·  Participate in the Environmental, Safety, Health and Quality programs
·  Adjust to daily work scope changes as required to operate the facility
·  Communicate and incorporate teamwork into daily operating and safety work tasks
