Job description



Job summary

The Software Asset Management (SAM) Analyst reduces software licensing costs and compliance risks, working as part of a global team, and providing data analytics as well as improving ways of managing software licensing within EY.

 

The SAM team works closely with EY’s global procurement, finance and IT operations departments, reviewing and analyzing multiple software related data types, including;

· 
volume supply contracts with external software vendors,

· 
proof of purchase records containing information on what licences EY has purchased, and the extent and metrics involved

· 
software deployment and software usage data,

· 
user, country and

· 
reference data such as asset status, environment and virtualization scenarios

· 
cost recovery and budgetary data

Enquiries coming in will be picked up and handled by the SAM Analyst, or passed to other members of the team, dependent on the nature of the problem.

 

 

Work types can involve participation in internal projects, ongoing service obligations and handling requests for advice, as well as proactively targeted activity where there are substantial cost and risk reduction opportunities.

 

Many different software vendors are in scope, requiring rapid learning. All software types will be involved including desktop, server, SaaS delivered applications and more, meaning the job requires a good grounding in IT practices and terminology.

 

The job will mean constant working with vendor licensing terms and conditions, metrics, assessments of EYs license entitlements and how software is being used within the firm.

 

Further analytical work will be required to assist with internal cost recovery, chargeback and budgetary processes as defined by EY finance teams

 

In addition to analytics, the job involves identifying processes which can be improved, and potential solutions to this, optimizing policy, procedures, product standards and licensing related service definitions.

 

 

Job requirements

Experience/Skill requirements

· 
Experience with IT asset management, discovery tools and related data

· 
Experience with developing, implementing, and refining SAM processes and procedures

· 
Good licensing knowledge of at least 2 software vendors

· 
Good knowledge of the other Service Management processes, particularly Change Management

· 
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills

· 
Excellent English language skills (verbal and written)

· 
Good presentation skills, using PowerPoint and custom reports

· 
Experience of virtualization concepts in server and desktop environments

· 
Experience with CMDB, ideally ServiceNow

· 
High standards of work quality and due diligence

Analytical/Decision making responsibilities


· 
Responsible for reporting/analyzing software installations versus software licenses

· 
Responsible for reporting/analysis that assists with the management of maintenance, support, and license renewals in advance of their expiration

· 
Interprets performance metrics, performs root cause analysis, assesses consequences, identifies solutions to issues/problems, and resolves deviations

· 
Demonstrates analytical and systematic approach to problem solving

· 
Identifies opportunities for process enhancements and efficiency gains         

Supervision responsibilities


· 
Uses discretion in identifying and resolving complex problems and assignments

· 
Specific instruction is usually given and work is reviewed at frequent milestones

· 
Determines when problems should be escalated to a higher level

· 
There is an expectation that this individual will also be able to work under own initiative to achieve agreed goals

Should be able to discuss reported findings with SAM leadership on an as needed basis
