EY are the leading provider of electricity market modelling services in Australia. Our role in the energy industry is to enable our clients to make info rmed decisions about the future of energy in Australia by providing them with evidence based insights.

 

We do this by utilising our industry leading National Electricity Market (NEM) dispatch and pricing engine and power flow modelling suite. Our clients are primarily renewable developers, energy sector investors, transmission and distribution network service providers, energy retailers, regulators, governments and government agencies.

 

Recent projects include:

· 
Forecasting market prices, marginal loss factors and network curtailment risk for numerous existing and prospective new entrant power stations,

· 
Advising government entities and network service providers on the effects of new transmission developments and/or transmission upgrades,

· 
Shaping key operational parameters of the wholesale electricity market through the reliability standard and settings review,

· 
Driving government and consumer understanding of residential electricity price trends;

· 
Investigating the impacts on the electricity market by changing market rules or government policy.

About the opportunity

We’re looking for vacation students to join our Sydney based Electricity Market Modelling team. As a vacation student you will have the opportunity to observe and assist our team members in the delivery of modelling projects and advancing the capability of our modelling tools. You will gain experience in the operation of energy markets, power station pre-feasibility, client and industry issues as well as exposure to a fast-paced consulting environment.

 

There is no exact set of skills for this role, but some of the following would be advantageous:

· 
Currently studying in a relevant tertiary education discipline such as mathematics, engineering, economics, or computer science

· 
Highly numerate with demonstrated experience in manipulating and analysing large data sets efficiently and with the ability to deal with ambiguities within data

· 
Highly computer literate. Currently, we use Excel, Microsoft VBA, Matlab, SQL and Python. We will provide time and training if you can demonstrate your willingness and ability to learn

· 
Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate meaningful insights to clients and colleagues

· 
The ability to employ best practice in data visualisation for both analysis and presentation

·  An understanding of or willingness to learn about the structure, key drivers and rules relevant to the operation of power systems and electricity markets

The Vacationer Program runs from 3rd December 2019 to 7th February 2020.
