The Role: Tax Advisor - Transaction

Purpose
Responsible for transaction tax automation, compliance and related state and local audits of North America affiliates of ENGIE Holding Inc. Maintains sound auditable compliance processes and creates an environment of constant improvement and efficiency using advanced automation tools. Support paperless transformation. Support a corporate tax policy that anticipates the impact of changing business strategies and align the policy with the company's goals and objectives.

Additional responsibilities include staff training using automation tools, audit support, tax research, tax refund & credit documentation, and miscellaneous tax returns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
·  Prepare and file the more complex returns and assist in review of other State and Local Sales & Use tax, Gross Receipt tax, utility tax, fuel tax and miscellaneous tax returns as required.
·  Continuous Process Improvement- Work with indirect tax director to implement ONESOURCE indirect tax across all NORAM companies, achieving automation and efficiency. Configure transaction tax software for new entities, jurisdictions, and create custom reports. Train other team members as software end-users.
·  Record Retention- Ensures each company's electronic transaction tax records are well maintained as numerous and extensive government audits and samples are to be expected.
·  Construction Projects- Closely work with project managers and procurement to provide transaction tax support for new construction including project company state registrations, exemption certificates, contract review and budgets for transaction taxes due.
·  Research questions from assigned business units including retail and plant site administrators, renewables, services, and gas and electric regarding applicability of sales tax. Update and maintain sales tax matrices. Prepare and maintain documentation regarding taxability. Scope spans assigned business segments and entities such as power generation, renewable energy programs and services by state and by project.
·  State tax audit responsibilities include working with tax management to manage audits, prepare clear and concise communication to state tax authorities and Engie management. Prepare detailed accounting documentation to support all types of transaction-based audits including, sales and use, gross receipts tax audits and litigation. Meet internal deadlines and submit timely responses to inquiries and correspondence from various taxing authorities. Communicate issues/resolutions internally.
·  Responsible for preparing journal entries for assigned entities and assisting in review of journal entities prepared by other team members. Support staff in clearing tax tolerance exceptions generated by ENGIE's procurement software.
·  Responsible for working with and training site administrators to properly code purchases for applicable sales tax and to provide tax guidance to Accounting, Asset Management, Business Development, Legal, and third-party vendors regarding applicability of state and local sales & use tax rules to fact patterns and work with them to resolve transaction tax issues.
·  Review and prepare (as needed) state and local sales & use tax exemption certificates, business registrations and renewals and tax refunds and credits on timely basis.
·  Work independently with minimum supervision and use logical approach to resolve issues within deadlines.
·  Acts as a team member with all employees of ENGIE North America Inc.
·  Complies with all ENGIE North America policies and procedures.
·  Carries out other duties as assigned

·  Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
·  Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
·  Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.

Education /Experience

·  Bachelor's degree with an accounting emphasis or equivalent experience
·  CPA a plus.
·  7-10 years of relevant work experience
·  Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
·  Excellent time management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
·  Proficiency in Excel, Word, SAP, Tax Research software, and Tax return preparation software. Procurement software (such as Maximo and Coupa) and tax determination software (OneSource or Vertex) experience a plus.
