ENGIE have an exciting opportunity for a Tax Accountant to be based in Newcastle NE12 8BX. This is a permanent and full-time role, working 37.5 per week Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

Job Purpose

To ensure all UK group corporate tax compliance matters are dealt with in timely fashion and all returns are filed on time.

Deliver/ assist with ad hoc tax planning projects where required (e.g. M&A work, internal group restructuring projects, international tax planning).

Main Responsibilities/Duties Include

Ensure all corporate tax returns are filed on time.

Ensure relevant claims and group relief claims are submitted to HMRC.

Responsible for providing current and deferred tax calculations for inclusion in the statutory financial statements.

Responsible for all tax accounting/ disclosure for relevant group of companies.

Prepare all corporate tax returns on Alpha Tax ready for review by the Tax Manager/Head of Tax.

Submission of all CT returns to HMRC.

Assist the Tax Manager/UK BU Head of Tax on ad hoc projects and M&A work whenever the need arises .

Ensure all CT returns are submitted on time.

Ensure all tax workings are included in statutory financial statements.

Dimensions of Job

Overall responsibility to prepare the CT returns ready for review by Tax Manager/ UK BU Head of Tax.

Responsible for tax accounting, tax workings for inclusion into statutory accounts.

Key Relationships

Close liaison with the whole tax department.

Working closely with the Financial Reporting team in Newcastle.

Working closely with finance teams in other UK locations (e.g. Doncaster, London and Leeds).

Required Qualifications

Graduate preferred

ACA/ACCA qualified or equivalent

Knowledge and Skills

The job holder will have:

Extensive experience of corporate tax in an accounting firm/industry.

Detailed knowledge of corporate tax including the Controlled Foreign Companies rules.

Awareness of international tax issues.

Thorough knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS, FRS101.

Previous experience of providing tax calculations for inclusion within the statutory financial statements of large businesses.

Excellent knowledge of Alphatax and Onesource.

Experience in other areas of tax such as VAT, PAYE, CIS would be advantageous.

Advanced Microsoft Excel (including the ability to use Pivot Tables and Vlookups).

Strong skills in English and Mathematics (to a high/ ‘A' level standard)

Experience

Preparation and review of the corporation tax returns.

Review of statutory accounts and tax disclosures and assisting in the preparation of the UK GAAP, FRS101, IFRS year- end current and deferred tax provision.

Assist with the preparation of the statutory accounts and reporting of the UK group.

Group reporting of tax accounts in IFRS.

Assisting the Tax Manager/Head of Tax in dealing with enquiries from HMRC and external auditors (with assistance from Tax Advisors).

Awareness of taxation issues in the energy and property sectors.

Awareness of Research & Development Expenditure Credit tax issues.

A very good knowledge of Capital allowances - ECA/CA/SP/Integral Features.

Ensuring tax strategy is optimised, in line with transfer pricing/thin capitalisation regulations.

Providing support and tax advice to the business on a wide variety of tax related issues and identifying new tax opportunities.

Assisting with various tax planning projects especially for the Energy Sector.
