The Job: Reliability Engineer

Purpose
The Reliability Engineer will be responsible for building, analyzing, maintaining, and monitoring operational reliability frameworks and software for the GridSynergy Platform which provides services to various entities along the power transmission and distribution systems throughout the nation. This role will be responsible to ensure that we meet or exceed minimum SLAs prescribed for the intelligent operation of energy storage systems optimized by the GridSynergy Platform on a continuous basis across each layer of our technology stack.

Essential Job Functions
·  Define new test specifications, methodology, and test plans to assure service reliability to all customer types
·  Identify and validate operational risks and work with development teams to mitigate them
·  Participate in design reviews, API development, and documentation
·  Design, maintain, and automate standardized test protocols executions and evaluations
·  Develop tooling and utilities to efficiently determine probable failure causes within various systems
·  Enhance internal monitoring and health tracking tools to reduce downtime and MTBF
·  Provide hands-on experimental design and test execution
·  Perform reliability assessment and prediction of failure modes on applications and assets under development, in production, or deployed in the field
·  Remote diagnostics and support for operations trouble tickets
·  Be responsible for test infrastructure and development to support HIL and emulated code validation for components provided by third parties
·  Carries other duties as assigned

Requirements

·  Excellent development skills in OOP or scripting languages (e.g. Java, Python, Perl, etc.)
·  Strong proficiency in Ubuntu or another Debian based OS
·  Knowledge of fundamental networking and systems communication protocols and standards: TCP/IP, HTTP, XML, RPC, etc.
·  Experience working with multiple communication protocols such as CAN, I2C, SPI, modbus, etc. is preferred
·  Ability to work across multiple disciplines (software, analog, firmware)
·  Experience with software stress testing (load testing, network reliability, failure and resiliency theory)
·  Knowledge of reliability and quality standards from IEC, IEEE, ISO, ANSI, ASTM and JEDEC. Knowledge in the areas of compliance and functional safety will be a plus
·  Experience in general data analytics and statistical analysis- machine learning a plus; Able to perform reliability analysis such as lifetime analysis, accelerated factor studies, reliability modeling and reliability allocation
·  Good understanding of best practice security principles
·  Capable of using and applying reliability tools such as FMEA, Fishbone, FTAs, RBDs, DOEs and Six-sigma methods to applications and hardware incorporated in our platform
·  Experience with hardware stress testing (electrical, environmental, fatigue, vibration/shock, etc.) is a plus
·  Ability to multi-task, prioritize and be flexible
·  Demonstrated proficiency with Software Change, Configuration Management, and Build Processes in a complex environment
·  Strong business / technology decision making skills
·  Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
·  Adept in Git for source code management

·  Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
·  Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
·  Could involve some lifting

Education/Experience

·  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline required; Master’s degree preferred
·  Minimum five (5) years of combined professional experience working as a reliability engineer or systems engineer
