ENGIE are recruiting for a  Legal Counsel to be based at 25 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London, E14 5LQ. This is a 6 months, fixed term post. The role will be part-time,  working 3 days (22.5 hours) or 4 days per (30 hours) per week.  On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

General Overview 

We require an outstanding Legal Counsel – Dispute Resolution, to be part of the UK BU legal team and to be responsible for providing focussed and strategic litigation and dispute resolution advice, with a strong focus on construction matters, to senior management and business stakeholders across all of the UK BU Divisions. 

Main Responsibilities/Duties of the Legal Counsel Include:

Delivering commercially sensible and practical (construction) litigation and dispute resolution advice across the business with an aim of balancing legal risk, driving innovation, reducing external legal spend where appropriate and being viewed as integral to decision making throughout the UK BU and its Divisions.  

· 
The Legal Counsel – Dispute Resolution will be managing and resolving) disputes of the UK BU, on wide ranging issues including, defects, delay and disruption, loss and expense and variations claims, payment disputes (including withholding and final account claims), adjudications under statute and ADR under contractual dispute resolution mechanisms. Excellent knowledge of the suite of construction contracts is imperative and a working knowledge of PFI contracts is desirable. The Legal Counsel – Dispute Resolution will be required to ‘nail their colours to the mast’ in the litigation advice they give in order to benefit the business and allow it to take cost effective and strategic decisions as early as possible.

Requirement to provide training to the business on an ad hoc basis and in a more structured format as the business requires. 

· 
Requirement to develop excellent working relationships with senior management teams in all UK BU Divisions to inspire trust and respect in advice given.

· 
Requirement to manage external legal counsel, optimising use of resources and negotiating cost effective fee arrangements.

Required Qualifications, Skills or Experience:

·  English qualified solicitor with minimum 6 years PQE in construction litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
·  Excellent knowledge of the Construction Act and CDM Regulations is essential
·  Experience with (disputes involving) PFI contracts highly recommended. 
·  Strong commercial approach and proven technical ability to formulate advice succinctly and communicate it effectively orally or in writing. 
·  The ability to provide independent advice together with the flexibility to deliver it in a fast-moving business environment with multiple commercial pressures and deadlines.
