·  Job Description:

Applies UNIX technical knowledge to solve complex business requirements and is regarded as an advanced subject matter expert. Uses consulting skills including, but not limited to: interviewing clients to understand business needs, developing technical solutions, and working with multiple teams to accomplish project deliverables.  Acts as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies.  Capable of consulting, designing, testing, implementing, managing capability requirements, integration of custom components into varied environments and provision of third level production support using standard methodologies.

Responsibilities

·  Responsible for client/account interactions as required
·  Responsible for producing part or all of the technical solution for the account/client, in accordance with an agreed technical design.
·  Responsible to make sure that the project deliverable is completed accurately and on time
·  Responsible for escalating the issues, problems, risks, and constraints to the appropriate parties for clarification and resolution
·  Responsible for design and engineering of custom Infrastructure solutions based on UNIX and Linux servers.
·  Responsible for communication with the Lead Engineer and account/client.
·  Responsible for the engineering of end to end solutions as required
·  Responsible for keeping abreast of new/emerging technology
·  Responsible for design, development, implementation using the Global Engineering specifications, methodology and practical application of ITIL practices and processes

Education and Experience Required

Required:

·  8+ years of professional experience and a Bachelor of Arts/Science or equivalent degree in computer science or related area of study; without a degree, three additional years of relevant professional experience (11+ years in total).

Unix System Administration I and II Certification

At least four years of experience using, building and maintaining one of the mainstream Linux or Unix base O/S's such as Red Hat, SUSE, Solaris HP-UX, AIX

Basic knowledge of most of the following areas:

Linux/UNIX based

Web Server (Sun One, iPlanet, Apache)
< >Application server (Apache, JBoss, TomCat, WebLogic)

Networking fundamentals
< >Load Balancing (F5, Cisco)

High Availability and Clustering

J2EE Architecture

Linux/UNIX Scripting
< > Complexity

·  Medium to large project/programs, multiple client sites and management organizations.

Technical Skills

·  Can lead Server migrations
·  Has sufficient depth and breadth of technical knowledge to design and scope multiple deliverables across a number of technologies
·  Demonstrates an expert understanding of both server hardware & server operating system deployment, configuration, testing & administration.
·  Server Refresh and Migrations experience (properly coordinate servers stand up and coordinate migrations between Datacenters.)
·  Minimum 8 years of experience engineering and supporting enterprise server solutions
·  Comfortable with Linux and UNIX troubleshooting.
·  Has experience of designing and engineering solutions in a distributed infrastructure environment (e.g. Servers, Blade Systems, Storage Area Networks, and Virtualization Technologies).
·  Experience leading the development and delivery of specific project work packages including the installation, configuration and administration of UNIX/Linux Operating Systems.
·  Demonstrates an understanding of unit testing, configuration and defect lifecycle management.
·  Awareness of ITIL and/or CMM practices and processes.
·  Demonstrates an advanced understanding of UNIX and Linux operating systems, boot sequence, run levels, service enabling/disabling server customization.
·  Demonstrates an advanced understanding of patching procedures and strategy
·  Demonstrates advanced level of developing/debugging shell scripts (csh, ksh, bash, perl)
·  Demonstrates an understanding of Networking services (NIS,NIS+, DNS, TCPIP, Samba)
·  Demonstrates an understanding of web server management and configuration, Apache
·  Demonstrates experience of significant upgrades, both operating systems and bespoke configurations across a wide area network with ability to work under pressure in a time constrained situation
·  Demonstrates an understanding of storage connectivity technologies (SAN, iSCSI, FCoE)

Knowledge and Skills

·  Ability to conduct/lead status/technical meetings with management or clients on small to medium sized engagements.
·  Demonstrates the use of consulting skills including: questioning, listening, ideas development, permission and rapport, and influencing.
·  Ability to translate verbal requirements from face to face client meetings into requirements documents, statements of work, and proposals.
·  Requirements Management
·  Able to discuss (within own area of expertise) requirements with the customer, and to challenge and clarify when appropriate.
·  From the requirements, able to develop a high level design or plan, and then estimate the amount of effort required to deliver.
·  Able to advise the engagement owner about the risks associated with this work package.
·  Ability to translate technical details into concise and easy to understand written form appropriate for varying target audiences.
·  Ability to write relevant components of a proposal document (e.g. answer specific RFP/RFQ questions).
·  Owns and contributes to the technical design of customer solutions.
·  Ability to work with a team to provide written responses to technical proposals and /or reports/documentation for delivery to tech lead/project manager.
·  Ability to interact with clients and co-suppliers in clear and concise language.

·  Ability to logically approach a problem from definition through resolution.
·  Ability to define a root cause analysis of an issue and explain causals, contributors and resolutions to clients and other team members
