Job Purpose: Ensure optimum plant automation and instrumentation availability. Optimise automation systems and operator aids in order to reduce workload and increase efficiency. Attend to breakdown and preventative maintenance activities/tasks.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

·  Ensure adherence to quality standards, procedures, policies and practices
·  Ensure adherence to HACCP and CIP protocols
·  Monitor and ensure compliance with housekeeping standards
·  Ensure that all breakdowns and preventative maintenance and/or schedules maintenance activities are carried out to high standards and workmanship
·  Ensure that breakdowns are attended to timeously, thereby reducing production downtime.
·  Minimize stoppages and increase plant availability by implementing plant maintenance strategies.
·  Assist with the development of the annual maintenance budget.
·  Ensure that maintenance tasks are executed within budget (i.e., reduce spare parts consumption where possible and attempt to curtail costs associated with breakdowns)
·  Adhere to finance related policies, procedures and controls
·  Continuously identify cost effect ways of delivering world class service, identify cost saving initiatives and recommend improvements
·  Participate in and lead (where appropriate) maintenance specific problem solving initiatives
·  Ensure that all required maintenance documentation is completed property: use information to analyse machine performance (i.e., establish trends, etc.) and identify improvements
·  Ensure optimum plant automation and instrumentation availability.
·  Optimise automation systems and operator aids in order to reduce workload and increase efficiency
·  Upgrade old and redundant equipment
·  Perform preventative and reactive (i.e., breakdowns) maintenance on plant equipment
·  Perform fault finding, upgrades and process optimisation on all Siemens PLC systems (S5 and S7), SCADA (WinCC ) and Wonderware) and redundant SQL servers and Allan Bradley.
·  Change recipes as appropriate (i.e., new products, changes, etc.)
·  Remain up to date on the latest technological advancements and sourcing better equipment equivalents as appropriate
·  Manage contractors (quality of work and procedures)
·  Develop working procedures as required
·  Participate in projects, factory acceptance tests, and in assembling, commissioning and decommissioning lines
·  Liaise with production planning in order to properly schedule preventative/corrective maintenance
·  Monitor own performance to ensure that breakdown and scheduled maintenance is executed within agreed time frame and to the required standards

Food Safety and Quality:

·  Ensure adherence to Food Safety and Quality principles as included in the policies, procedures, product specifications and processes. This also includes general Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene practices.
·  Identify and report any potential Food Safety & Quality and GMP deviations and hazards.

Safety

·  Adhere to safety regulations, procedures and policies
·  Identify and report safety hazards
·  Participate in safety incident/accident investigations as required

·  Participate in safety audits and action plan implementation as and when required
·  Comply with LOTO procedures and perform work in a safe manner at all times

LEVEL OF COMPETENCE REQUIRED:

·  Solid technical knowledge/competence
·  Maintenance experience
·  Passionate about maintenance methodologies/strategies and best practice

ACADEMIC AND TRADE QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Qualified Instrument technician
·  N6 Instrumentation

WORK EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

·  5 years of work experience in instrumentation within a FMCG environment / food industry
·  Exposed to technical root cause analysis methodologies
