Business System Analyst (Calgary)

Business Systems Analyst
Location: Calgary

Reporting to the Program Manager – Payments Modernization, Strategy Analysis & System Support in the Funds Management and Banking (FBD) Department, you are primarily responsible, in the context of the Payments Modernization transformation program and in an Agile development framework, for providing business system analysis, business support, integration and user acceptance testing (UAT) to the business line in the context of evolving the operating framework for Banking Operations critical operations, and more specifically in relation to the impacts to the High Availability Banking Systems (HABS) and its related systems.

Business stakeholders include the internal owners of applications, the external owners of applications that are used internally

Your future duties and responsibilities
• convert business requirements into business system specifications and validate enhancements to the High Availability (HA) business system architecture to ensure architectural consistency.

• provide subject matter expertise, expected documentation, guidance and contribute to the delivery of the required system changes.

• be part of a Scrum team who works day to day with the payments modernization’s team

• use your expertise to perform validation and integration testing on a wide variety of solutions and platforms

• provide subject-matter expertise to internal and external committees and stakeholders

• develop and maintain, business and project artefacts such as use cases, user stories, business procedures, test strategies, test plans, test cases, test scripts as well as other assets that are used to support manual or automated testing in solution testing, including UAT.

• perform impact analysis on changes under area of expertise

• work very closely with, and support, the Business Systems Architect in overseeing business to system knowledge management and when required, providing business authority, advice, and guidance to system development initiatives.

• participate in the development and maintenance of business system architecture and design standards and principles to ensure reliability, robustness, flexibility and scalability of the systems.

• assist in the development of a strategic direction for critical banking systems by analyzing defined long-term business needs and providing sound recommendations for systems.

• continuously monitor the technology environment to identify opportunities to improve the functioning of the business and the delivery of business services as well as how to adapt systems to the ever-changing operational context.

• work as an active Scrum Team member in an Agile environment

• execute test cases and procedures (manual or automated) and document test results

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
• bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business administration, or a related discipline and a minimum of five years of experience in the development and testing of business requirements, the delivery of business system analysis while ensuring proper consideration of people, processes, systems design and technology

To perform your day to day work you;

• have a strong understanding of the underlying implicated processes, information and enabling technologies particularly those related to banking, payment and settlement operations/systems.

• can think conceptually and can analyze and discern inconsistencies.

• are experienced, in an agile approach, in writing and managing requirements for systems involving user workflow and rule-based processing with elaborated user interface and interaction.

• can gather information to make sound decisions and recommend appropriate solutions

• have effective communication skills that allow you to conduct needs assessments with colleagues and clients to identify business requirements.

• are familiar with testing business functionalities in complex systems

• are a team player who can work with a diversity of internal and external stakeholders, while managing multiple tasks and deadlines of varying complexities. In addition, you have good working knowledge of IT resources and enabling technologies.

• have strong and proven leadership with the ability to deal with partial information, change, multiple priorities, as well as with a diversity of stakeholders

Assets

• knowledge of highly-available banking and payments systems

• Knowledge of the Canadian Payments landscape

• IIBA (International Institute of Business Analysis) or relevant professional designations

• experience with software development methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall

• understanding of business processes related to the front, middle and back office

• knowledge of structured analysis techniques and development tools as applied to business processes, automated systems and workflow analysis

• ability in test automation and writing test scripts (e.g. SQL, Gherkin, etc.)

• ability to transform and optimize Business processes using LEAN

• business continuity, disaster recovery, problem root cause analysis experience

Additional information

• Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents

• Must be eligible for secret clearance

• worked in an agile scrum setting

• seasoned BA (familiar with all analysis activities / tasks),

• ability to promote communication and collaboration with the team to size (estimate) the works to facilitate the team to select a small batch size of prioritized backlog items to work within a sprint, and

• work with Test lead / SOS to perform early UAT (when applicable) to enable frequent review and delivery of MVPs to users if we chose to do so

• ability to have conversation (provide rationale) with a diversity of stakeholders and teammates
