Job description


RISK CIB Operational Risk & Control (RISK ORC CIB) belongs to the second line of defence of BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Bank (CIB). It is part of the Risk Function of BNP Paribas (RISK) and is placed under the responsibility of the Chief Operational Risk Officer for CIB.

RISK ORC GB EMEA is acting as the second line of defence for all Global Banking, CIB Functions, ALM-T, TPRM, and Principal Investments activities carried out in the region, providing CIB and RISK senior management with a front-to-back view of operational risks. It also ensures global consistency of Operational Risk management of Global Banking activities across RISK ORC CIB regions.

On this perimeter, the RISK ORC GB EMEA Coordination for remote locations is set-up to ensure deployment and ongoing execution of the Group's Operational Risk Management Framework in the locations where RISK ORC CIB Global Banking is not present and for all TPRM matters.


The Risk Operational risk analyst will be under the hierarchical management of the Head of RISK ORC Global Banking EMEA for remote location


The Risk Operational analyst will be in charge of the following activities for the various remote locations, in close coordination with the RISK ORC Global Banking EMEA team in Paris:

Identification & assessment of operational risks

· Ensure application of the risk identification & assessment framework (RCSA)

· Independent challenge and sign-off on the RCSA and control plans (generic vs specific, deployment, organizational scope, major risk coverage, relevance of assessments and action plans)

· Perform risk assessment of the 1st line of defence control framework, and read-across of identified risks

Collection of operational risk historical incidents

· Ensure application of HI collection normative framework

· Independently challenge the analysis of the key incidents, sign-off and follow up on their remediation plan (e.g. via HI Lookback on significant incidents)

· Alert in case of significant incidents

· Perform quality reviews (exhaustive for significant and >150k€ HI, or by sample for other incidents below 150k€ threshold)

Quantification of potential incidents (for AMA entities)

· Ensure application of the normative framework regarding potential incident identification and quantification

· Perform quality reviews on potential incidents

· Independently challenge and sign off the quantifications, leading to temporary completion in case of disagreement

Independent review – 2nd Line of defence controls

· Ensure application of the general framework regarding controls and controls plan

· Independently challenge the generic control plans and manage exemptions (e.g. regarding generic controls implementation)

· Define and execute 2nd line of defence controls (verification, re-performance, direct and thematic controls)

· Alert on detected risks and attention points resulting from 1st or 2nd line of defence controls

· Contribute, challenge and follow up on the implementation of significant action plans, regardless of the level of the control that triggered the action

Operational Risk Reports

· Ensure application of the general framework for the consolidated permanent control report

· Contribute to the production of the Operational Risk Permanent Control Report

· Review and challenge contribution to global and/or local operational risks reports

Recommendations and permanent control actions

· Ensure application of framework for recommendations & permanent control actions follow-up (e.g. Inspection Générale / External auditors / Supervisors findings and recommendations, TAC NAC actions, etc.)

· Report on recommendation / actions implementation and management of the escalation process

· Verify the proper operation of the local follow-up framework

Operational Risk governance bodies

· Contribute to Local Operational Risk committees in liaison with 1st line of defence,

· Contribute to TAC NAC – New Transaction or Activity Validation Committees – (i.e. for new product, new activity or new IT system implementation, new organisation, outsourcing initiative …) in liaison with local sites

· Support the local 1st line of defense (including OPC) to share and ensure the respect of norms, OR methodologies and procedures as well as correct Risk Assessment identification and operations (regular points, support on the new standards and tools, assistance during the reports of Permanent Control, feedbacks…)

Business skills

· Good knowledge of the CIB businesses, products and processes, in particular but not limited to Corporate Banking and the Credit Process

· Interest and/or experience in the Operational Risk Management

· Culture knowledge of the norm context

· Audit experience appreciated

· Language : Fluent English (essential), fluent French (preferable but not essential)
