Team Leader - Regulatory Science (2002740) – Research Triangle Park, NC

Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Team Leader, Regulatory Science (Protein) will manage and provide technical guidance for a team of Regulatory Scientists responsible for the design and conduct of protein-related regulatory studies in support of global deregulation and approval of seed and traits products across crops.  These studies provide the basis for the regulatory safety assessments of our products worldwide.  Areas of accountability include (i) quantification of protein expression levels in plant tissues, (ii) assessment of the stability of proteins in plant tissues or food/feed matrices, and (iii) insect bioassay measurements.  The Team Leader communicates across Regulatory stakeholder groups to plan and execute work under GLP.  The work occurs within a global network of people and work environments, both laboratory and field.

Formula for Success: You Will…

·     Communicate across operational stakeholder groups to plan, manage resources for, and execute work under GLP. 

·     Maintain and be responsible for the technical strategy for deregulation and approval for biotech crop plants as part of a team, often under time pressure in a fast-changing environment.

·     Lead a team of Study Directors and ensure agreement on study designs, details, quality expectations, and delivery timelines in support of regulatory submissions in primary production countries and key import countries.

·     Manage a team of direct reports for the execution of laboratory work and as part of a team, manage the laboratory facility under GLP to support work.

·     Accountable for quantification of proteins in plant tissues and food/feed matrices in compliance with global Good Laboratory Standards (GLP).

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Qualifications

Education

·      PhD degree in Protein Biochemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Immunochemical Analytics or related Field with at least 2 years of experience, or a

·      MS Degree in in Protein Biochemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Immunochemical Analytics or related Field with at least 5 years of experience, or a

·      BS Degree in Protein Biochemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Immunochemical Analytics or related Field with at least 7 years of experience.

Experience

·      Demonstrated experience in managing personnel (i.e. Study Directors, Principal Investigators, and other laboratory personnel). Experience as part of a GLP Testing Facility is preferred.

·      Leadership and management abilities, including communication of technical and operational activities verbally and in writing across teams.

·      Strong intercultural orientation and interest in a multi-cultural environment supporting a multi-national team.

·      Demonstrated ability to plan project activities.

Knowledge/Skills

·      Demonstrated experience with protein quantitation in plant, food, and feed matrices; protein characterization methods.

·      Demonstrated experience in documentation and writing protocols and high quality technical reports.

·      Working knowledge of statistical analyses of analytical methods and studies.
