Plant Pathology Technician: 6-month contract (1903888) - Saskatoon SK, Canada

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to join our team.  In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating transgenic and traditional canola breeding lines for resistance to common diseases, screening and phenotyping breeding generations during resistance introgression into elite lines and developing accurate and efficient protocols for evaluating germplasm with various genetic backgrounds for resistance to economically important diseases of canola.

·        Your education requirement must be a BSc or MSc degree in Agriculture, Biological Sciences, Applied Microbiology, Plant pathology or equivalent.

·        Your knowledge and/or experience with plant pathogens or plant genetics will facilitate your handling and evaluation of canola lines for resistance against multiple diseases.

·        Your familiarity with pathogens and isolation technics will serve you well during the process of characterizing strains of different pathogens that cause diseases on canola.

·        Your knowledge or familiarity with various methods used in disease evaluations or rating scales, will help you to complete disease ratings more efficiently.

·        Your knowledge or experience with field plot research will be essential in conducting field experiments in different locations while evaluating parental lines, hybrids and exotic germplasm against different canola diseases.

·        Your ability to work independently as well as contributing to a team work will be essential in our diverse and multi-departmental work environment.

·        Demonstrating your understanding and knowledge of statistics and experimental design will be beneficial to generating reliable disease resistance data sets.

·        Utilizing your knowledge of various computer programs and databases including, Microsoft Suite, Prism etc., you will make data summaries for various diseases.
