Maintenance Supervisor (2000360) – Elyria, OH

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to lead a multiple skilled flexible work team to ensure safe, permit compliant, efficient and effective operations on a twenty-four hour/day continuously operated facility. You will direct maintenance resources to complete planned and emergency work that impacts the continuous operations at the site. You will also be responsible for the development of key working relationships with Production, Maintenance, Process Controls, SHE and Engineering to successfully drive initiatives to completion.   

This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your superior planning, organization, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.  Although not required, prior supervisory experience, an OSHA 30 Safety Certificate, skilled trades experience, a basic understanding of welding, and HVAC experience is desirable.  A Journeyman’s Card or License currently held or previously held will also be a valued asset.

This position requires off hours, weekend duty and shift work on an as needed basis.  You may also be called at home to provide advice and information as required to support the needs of the plant.

Formula for Success            

Contributing your high work standard & accountability, initiative, and excellent judgment, you will lead a maintenance team of BASF techs and embedded contractors, ensure adherence to safe and environmentally correct work practices, a proactive approach to teamwork, continuous improvement and cost reduction. Your unwavering commitment to safety will be evident as you will be accountable for safety goals and Critical Success Factors for safety performance by active participation and leadership in solving safety issues and coordinating safety and housekeeping programs. Leveraging your education (preferably in Engineering Technology or a related Engineering discipline) and experience in a manufacturing environment (chemical plant preferred), you will plan, coordinate and monitor the activities of the maintenance team to ensure production targets, maintenance goals, and quality specifications are met safely and efficiently in accordance to company/plant polices procedures and work instructions. Successfully engaging within the organization, you will coordinate Maintenance activities with the Production Gatekeeper, Maintenance Schedulers, Maintenance Planners, Maintenance Manager and other personnel as appropriate. Demonstrating your strong ability to lead and manage change, you will manage the performance and development of personnel through on-going feedback, coaching, audits, counseling, and observations.  You will also coordinate and supervise the work of contractors. Knowing our business and developing functional/procedural expertise, you will ensure the group obtains business knowledge required to work effectively, monitor cost to help ensure compliance with budgets, and report potential variances. Leading by example with your excellent communications skills (both verbal and written), you will maintain and encourage collaborative resolutions and communications of work issues among employees, departments and various work groups. Your solid mechanical aptitude (specifically the use of precision measurement tools and assembly techniques) and your knowledge of various equipment and machinery will serve you well as you establish and share maintenance best practices. Your strong experience using computer programs, specifically Microsoft Office Suite and SAP, will be useful as you complete reports and documentation and create work notifications, work orders, and purchase requests in SAP. Working well as a team player, you will use your ability to assist with troubleshooting efforts and direct maintenance resources to successfully repair and maintain site equipment, as well as back up the Production Gatekeeper during his/her absence.
