Description

With major investments in Nanjing, Shanghai and Chongqing, BASF is one of the largest foreign investors in the Chinese chemical industry, and maintains the BASF Asia Pacific Innovation Campus in Shanghai as a research and development hub for the Asia Pacific region.

 

Objectives:

·  Scientist working on the leading-edge technology in reaction engineering.
·  Expert for technical support on reactor related process optimization, troubleshooting and debottlenecking.

Main Tasks:

·  You will have chance to work on various processes covering all businesses in BASF and will look into the reactors, the heart of process, in details. It is expected that you can independently execution of process engineering projects for the optimization, debottlenecking and trouble-shooting of BASF processes in the region; technically the focus is on reaction engineering including root cause analysis, modeling, lab experiment, production implement, etc.
·  You will design and develop project related experimental plan, including related facilities design and setup. You will act as supervision of lab technicians on project basis and functional lead of virtual team if applicable.
·  You will interact with stakeholders/customers (e.g. plant manager, process manager, others) to clarify needs, boundary conditions, solution proposal - standard communication situations.
·  You will maintain regular and effective communication with plants/sites of BASF; be aware of the status of operation excellence and investment projects in the region; identify potential opportunities in line with the competencies of the unit among variety of projects.
·  You will be responsible for compliance to EHS rules in your area of activity. Initiates safety review for experiments and ensures compliance to according measures.
·  You will work with global experts in BASF with different background and from different disciplines. You will have regular communication with technology community and support development of area of expertise in reaction engineering to maintain leading edge technology. You will give training to younger colleagues and establish best practices aligning with global experts.
·  You will build-up and enhance network within local unit and local R&D community; actively use network for own project tasks. You will build up network with relevant partners/customers and take care of the acquisition and definition of new projects.
·  You will actively broaden your own knowledge in field of expertise; broaden repertoire of methods. You will define, initiate and manage research projects to develop new technology in reaction engineering.

 

Requirements:

·  Education: PhD in Chemical Engineering (Reaction Engineering preferred)
·  Working Experience: related working experience is a plus
·  Technical & Professional Knowledge:
·  Have knowledge of chemical and process engineering, production process, technical chemistry; process modelling, process analysis, lab operation;
·  Comprehensive and deep understanding of chemical engineering principles; sound knowledge of process development, optimization and equipment design;
·  Experience on programming with commercial software, like Matlab.
·  Language skills: English proficient
