Job description
Key accountabilities
Technical Centre
Establish and manage a strong and cohesive technical infrastructure with superior level of technical expertise/ support in the areas of product development/modification, customer service and quality management
Transfer Know how (test results, test methods, new application techniques) within the responsible region.
Develop and maintain a network of information sources including an effective storage and retrieval system
Quality Assurance/Quality Control
Ensure functions of Quality Assurance and Quality Control are operated according to Company policy and procedures and appropriate national standards so as to ensure only quality product is released for sale.
Implement new test methods if necessary and ensure the test equipment is maintained and calibrated frequently
Ensure that TDS, MSDS and Method statements (if required) are prepared for all new products to enable sales in the local market.
Ensure that product test certificates are developed/created and maintained to provide verification of material properties claimed on Technical Data Sheets.
Product Development/Maintenance
Initial assessment of viability of development projects proposed by Sales and Marketing. Coordinate submission of authorized development projects to the Development Manager.
Supervise and coordinate all technical laboratory work, field evaluations and production trials associated with such approved development projects and new products.
Key accountabilities
Supervise the setting of specifications for new products, including sources and data for raw materials, manufacturing procedures and finished product testing (standard and performance testing), packaging requirements and Safety & Environment.
Liaise with statutory bodies and implement local standards. Give input where appropriate in amending or setting national standards to improve the level of product quality
Assist in sourcing of new or alternative raw materials or alternative suppliers for existing raw materials. Liaise with Purchasing officer in the negotiation of purchase contracts with critical raw material suppliers.
Ensure that Raw Material Specifications (RMS) are prepared for any new raw material, RMS are updated for any approved new source of an existing raw material and that all ARMS are current and any changes or additions are distributed to all concerned parties.
Ensure that Bills of Material are updated for any change to raw materials or formulations relating to manufactured products.
Technical Service
Support Sales/Marketing efforts by providing product samples and mock ups on site. Supervise and manage the sample making process
Liaise with Sales and Marketing and coordinate/manage site support of the technical service team accordingly
Provide product training for internal customers (Sales, marketing) as well as external customers
Develop and train applicator for different product lines and record/monitor their performance.
Create, update and maintain method statements for all CS products and AS products where appropriate.
Qualifications / experience / know how
Degree in Materials Science/Engineering
Knowledge of construction chemicals/materials testing, product development and construction and building practices
Approx. 5 years of similar experience in CS development (optional in MNC environment), technical service and engineering, QA/QC.
