Cotton Seed Production Agronomist (2000978) – California (San Joaquin or Sacramento Valley areas) - Remote

We are seeking a professional like you to manage Cotton Seed Production activities to achieve daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals in safety, productivity, efficiency and quality while meeting financial and quantity objectives.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Formula for Success


·     Leveraging your education in the field of agronomy, seed science, plant science, agricultural economics, or a related discipline and your experience in cotton production/research, seed production/quality assurance, or agribusiness, you will lead, guide, and direct gins and growers to achieve high quality planting seed based on quality standards to meet Cotton Seed Supply needs.

·     Successfully engaging within and outside the organization, you will work with storage and quality lab managers and cotton gin to ensure seed movement to testing and storage sites are scheduled in CPM, in addition to other forms of communication.

·     Your advanced knowledge of cotton production systems will be essential as you conduct field inspections for isolation, purity testing and quality issues.

·     Thinking critically and strategically, you will determine crop status and provide a forecast to Seed Supply Management.

·     Your effective written and verbal communication skills will serve you well as you participate in weekly seed supply conference calls, providing updates throughout the year.

·     Performing preliminary quality tests on bulk seed at gin, you will minimize freight cost on seed that does not meet quality standards and communicate accordingly.

·     Relying on your advanced negotiation skills, you will secure necessary acreage to supply requested tonnage for respective varieties while spreading production risk and minimizing cost.

·     Applying your mastery of skills associated with personal computers such as Excel, Word, CPM and SAP, you will utilize CPM for records related to Cotton Seed Production, manage and facilitate the seed production contract ensuring accuracy related to varieties, acres, price and tons, map all fields planted to ensure lots can be tracked back to the original source, and maintain grower and cotton gin training records.

·     Demonstrating your ability to control cost and prepare budgets, you will work with the Commercial Seed Supply Manager to maintain costs within assigned budget.

·     Your unwavering commitment to compliance will be evident as you complete stewardship, safety and other trainings required for cotton seed production.

·     Working well as a team player, you will assist as needed with other assignments as directed by seed supply management.
