RESPONSIBILITIES

The Breeding Informatics group is working on a global and multi-year digital transformation program in the Seeds & Traits R&D business of BASF. This group enables BASF breeders and scientists to make quicker and more accurate data-driven decisions by providing cross-functional and integrated breeding informatics solutions. The Breeding Informatics platform consists of a full range of data repositories, analysis and reporting tools to support business processes and enable users to translate data into actionable know-how. The Product Owner will be responsible for the implementation, maintenance and enhancement of the Breeding informatics platform and products. The position will also contribute to the global BASF digital vision and strategy by leveraging the full value of the Breeding Informatics platform and developing new and innovative R&D digital solutions.

What you can expect:

·  You will manage and oversee product development progress (currently leading a team of 12 software developers).
·  You will prioritize product development aligned with business requirements and criticality.
·  You will act as primary liaison between the business and the software development team.
·  You will anticipate business needs and define a product vision together with stakeholders, business analysts and product managers.
·  Additionally, you will ensure compliance with all existing safety and regulatory standards in the area of responsibility considering laws, regulations and directives and evaluate potential risks of the research activities.
·  You will participate in external scientific cooperation(s) on specific fields and report progress in relation to critical milestones to group leaders, product managers and other stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

·  You have a Ph.D. or master degree in a relevant field of computational life sciences with at least 3-5 years of experience in R&D plant sciences (breeding, molecular breeding, genotyping, genetics/genomics, phenotyping).
·  Knowledge about plant breeding pipelines and digital applications (e.g. field trial design, marker assisted selection, genomic selection) will be a plus.
·  You have good software development skills, and knowledge of best practices and methodologies.
·  You have an analytical mindset (requirement gathering, functional analysis).
·  Demonstrated project management skills within complex multi-disciplinary projects is a plus.
·  You have good interpersonal, technical, leadership and communication skills and feel comfortable networking across functions.
·  You have excellent organizational, planning and time management skills.
·  Futhermore, you have a logical thinking style with creative problem-solving ability.
·  You are proficient in English.
