Background

Working within the Enterprise Environments, Deployments, Tools, and Release team to provide IT software delivery and implementation through the Enterprise Monthly Release calendar to support the Aviva business move forward in its Digital aspirations.  The area manages the controlled, reliable and predictable delivery of change within the complex and shifting environment across multiple platforms and teams.

Role Purpose

Lead individual major releases ensuring deliveries are safe, swift and flexible.  Working to the monthly release calendar ensuring no detriment to production service attributed to poor release management practices. Also to provide high level communications to senior stakeholders around all major release deliveries

Key aspects of role

Nature of Work (the “What”)

  • Accountable for provision of monthly release services used by Aviva Canada with no unplanned service interruptions
  • Release Management and deployment coordination across monthly release processes
  • Understand and manage cross platform and project dependencies in order to support IT deliveries
  • Engagement with senior and business stakeholders to ensure complete understanding of required business outcomes
  • Compliance of monthly release processes to Business Controls and IT standards with unplanned impacts on service due to inefficient or in appropriate process or governance

Resource Complexity

What resources is the role accountable for:

  • Collaboration with Release Engineer community operationally to gain low level technical understanding of deliveries where appropriate.
  • Work with Platform leads, IT Business and Service Partners to ensure quality deliveries specified in the monthly release
  • No direct budget ownership but responsible for supply of release resource to support monthly releases
  • Industry knowledge of release and change management best practice including IT Standards and Business Controls is essential.
  • Deep association and appreciation of platform and business appetite and drivers for change delivery is key

Problem Solving

What type of problems need to be solved?:

  • Ability to give high and detailed level understanding of project and technical dependencies across all business led IT deliveries
  • Provide delivery solutions where deficiencies in project or change readiness arise
  • What are the key decisions taken?:
  • Acceptance of change into monthly release pipelines or delivery timeframes
  • Risk assessments of release readiness in conjunction with engaged stakeholders (including own team and across functions)
  • Levels of all release related communications for relative target audiences

Change

What change is the role holder responsible for?:

  • Provision of all monthly release processes and the enhanced control and flexibility
  • Safe change delivery adhering to customer first mentality
  • Improvement of operational and procedural structure for monthly release process via transformational activities
  • Utilization of agreed toolsets to enhance customer experience of release management processes

Internal Collaboration

  • Key relationships within Aviva across all IT business, Change and Service partners and IT platforms in order to make customer focused decisions.
  • Drive deeper business engagement through frontline business networking
  • Collaborate with peers across Release, Assurance and Change to continuously attain feedback, review and suggest new process and best working practices

External Interaction

  • Engage and collaborate with Global Source Partners to extract high performance and gain value for money
  • Interact with non-competitive companies to share and understand different ways of working

Timeframe

  • Ensure complete and successful delivery of monthly release calendar with any deviations managed effectively in line with business desires through management of individual releases (circa 6-8 week cycles)
  • Look to develop and evolve release management process in line with Aviva IT delivery and organizational developments

Customer Outcomes:

  • Successful timely delivery of all business outcome associated with all monthly release changes
  • Smooth operational running post all monthly deliveries with no unplanned impact on effectiveness
  • Ability to deliver what our customers want when they want it within IT standards and appropriate governance
  • 0 Severity 1 or 2 incidents attributed to poor practice within monthly release management processes
  • Successful delivery of Monthly Release calendar year on year with great customer feedback
  • No breach in governance for any monthly release delivery
