Job description

We are looking for a Governance Officer to join our Legal Operations team and play a lead role in the day-to-day management of the law firms that Aviva collaborate with.

This is an outstanding position for someone with a great understanding of the Legal industry and a talent for working with others. You will be given responsibility for overseeing the relationships we have with these law firms and holding them to account on spend, performance and compliance with Aviva's processes. You'll have a busy schedule of meetings to manage and the opportunity to demonstrate your amazing communication and interpersonal skills as you collaborate with both the law firms and colleagues across different legal teams.

If you're a seasoned legal professional, a graduate with a good grasp of the legal sector or someone with commercial experience in a law firm, we would love to hear from you all!

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop positive relationships with external law firm partners and spot opportunities for efficiencies and collaboration.
  • Organise and attend relationship meetings with various law firms. Present at each meeting on: legal spend, operational developments, innovation and areas for collaboration.
  • Liaise with all legal teams across the business areas and particularly with the relationship managers. A good working relationship with internal Finance teams and Procurement is also essential.
  • Support the Head of Legal Operations in successfully crafting and maintaining governance around law firm relationships - keep them updated on key developments.
  • Record data relating to the spend and performance associated with each law firm and share this with various Aviva teams to help inform business decision making.
  • Working with the firms to arrange high quality training sessions in a range of different formats and on a vast range of topics.

Skills and Experience

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent professional/vocational qualification, preferably relating to law.
  • Experience in, or a good understanding of, the legal industry is essential.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships with colleagues and external partners.
  • Confidence in engaging with and influencing external suppliers to achieve business outcomes.
  • Comfortable working in an environment of continuous change and improvement - flexibility and adaptability.
  • A quick learner who can understand the regulatory requirements of the Financial Services industry.
