Job description
We are looking for a Data Modeler/Solution Designer to join our growing team of Data and BI experts. Aviva has embarked on a journey to build a next generation data platform to support the growing data needs for business intelligence and analytics.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work will primarily focus on creating & developing data models (conceptual, logical, physical).
- Work will also encompass creating & developing solution designs for data acquisition/ingestion of varied data sets (internal/external), data integrations & data warehouse/marts
- Collaborate with business partners, product owners, stakeholders, functional experts, business analysts, IT architecture, and developers to design data models and solution designs to meet requirements
- Lead solution design discussions with internal and external stakeholders as relevant
- Prepare data model & solution design documentation
- Responsible for monitoring and ensuring that solutions adhere to enterprise data governance & design standards
- Assist in troubleshooting application problems where data, ETL, and reporting are integral elements
- Responsible for monitoring and ensuring the ongoing data quality within the data model
- Ensure a consistent approach and implementation of processes and technology in designing solutions
- Own the data definitions for all data tables and maintain data lineage
- Work with DBAs on imposing database constraints, indexes, performance tuning for the data models
- Work with Data Engineers to ensure that development adheres to best practices and ensure that quality is ‘built-in’
- Own the data models for various zones in the Enterprise Data Hub like post ingestion, integration, data warehouse/marts
- Communicate clearly and effectively during project execution on data models & solution designs aligned to data strategy
- Understand and articulate interdependencies, constraints of the data model to Data Engineers, project teams and business teams
- Collaborate with other IT teams, Architecture and third party vendors as required
- Understand the functional & technical aspects of Enterprise Data Hub, data integrations, data warehouse/marts
- Write queries to extract data from the Enterprise Data Hub, data warehouse/marts for analysis
- Work in an Agile delivery framework to evolve data models and solution designs to deliver value incrementally
Skills Required:
- 10+ years of experience building data models for data lakes, data warehouses & data marts
- 5+ years of experience designing solutions for data lakes, data integrations, data warehouses/marts
- 5+ years of experience in Property & Casualty Insurance domain
- Strong knowledge/experience with data technologies & tools (Hadoop, PostgreSQL, Informatica, etc.,)
- Excellent knowledge and experience in ETL with Informatica product suite
- Knowledge/experience in Cloud Data Lake Design – pref AWS technologies like S3, EMR, Redshift, etc.,
- Experience implementing Data Governance principles
- Experience in Agile and DevOps model for Data Application design, implementation and operations
- Excellent background working with multiple databases (relational, dimensional, graph, unstructured/file based, etc.,)
- Strong application design and development skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complexity in both technical and user-friendly language
- Understanding of reporting/analytics tools (QlikSense, SAP Business Objects, SAS, DataIku, etc.,)
- Experience with ACORD, IIW or SAS DDS data models will be an asset
- Strong data analysis and SQL skills to extract data from multiple zones (landing zones, data warehouses/marts, etc.,)
- Self-starter with experience working in a fast-paced agile development environment
- High level of flexibility with strong ability to lead others through process, system and transformation change
