DESCRIPTION

The Amazon Shopping Team is responsible for designing and understanding the shopping flow – from product discovery to evaluation and purchase. The Shopping Design Research team is a small, tenured, highly respected, supportive and cohesive team. Our product partners are hungry for our insights as we've quantifiably proven significant impact on both the business and the customer experience. We need a highly motivated, creative and passionate Principal UX Researcher to be a part of our team as we build the next generation of shopping experiences on all devices and platforms – for millions of people around the world. Using a diverse set of methods and data including usability testing, ethnographic user research, customer service, and behavioral data from millions of customers shopping every day worldwide, you'll generate and synthesize key insights regarding customers' needs, pain points, and opportunities, and partner with design, engineering, and product to envision and launch new experiences and innovations to keep Amazon at the forefront of customer satisfaction for shopping.

In this role, you will be responsible for driving and implementing a research strategy - possibly inventing some new research techniques along the way. Your research will be agile, performing quick but thorough data analysis in order to create insightful findings. Our teams move fast and iterate continually. You will be right there with them - but you will also find time to zoom out and ask the big questions that change the course of these programs, or cause us to build entirely new ones. You will interact daily with product managers, designers, engineers, data scientists, executives, and your research peers to understand and guide the team's research needs, including designing and conducting research activities. The goal being to drive impact, as measured by changes to the product design and development roadmap and our key customer metrics.

As an ideal candidate, you have a deep understanding of user research methods and best practices, with a nimble, creative and pragmatic approach, and you're interested in pushing the boundaries of agile research. You are a passionate researcher with uncanny observational and analytical skills, an impressive ability to collaborate with other teams, and a relentless determination to do what is right for Amazon's customers. You can work with minimal direction while delivering high-quality outputs. You will work on overlapping projects, so you are good at multi-tasking, juggling competing priorities, and organizing yourself. As a key leader on the team, you are a pragmatic visionary that can translate needs and constraints into a simple, intuitive solutions. You are a systems thinker that can see around corners to anticipate the needs of tomorrow. You have a passion for innovation, simplification, and a strong attention to detail. You are a proven strategic thinker and collaborator who flourishes in a large organization, and skilled at managing multiple stakeholders and leading projects that span numerous teams. Desired profile



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· 10+ years of proven success leading user research projects with demonstrated impact
· A BS or equivalent degree in psychology, cognitive science, Human Factors, HCI, HCD etc.
· End-to-end experience with all aspects of research
· A strong portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables
· Experience conducting research on mobile platforms
· Hands-on experience with: lab-based user testing, remote testing, iterative prototype testing, concept testing, ethnographic research, longitudinal research (e.g. diary studies), benchmarking, international research, survey design and usage of multiple methods within a study
· Exceptional behavioral data-collection and analysis skills, (e.g., designing, conducting, and analyzing all kinds of user data.)
· The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
· Ability to meet ambitious deadlines and deliver high-quality work on schedule, including quickly turning around study plans and reports
· Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
· Eagerness to continually learn, grow and improve the craft of research.
· Demonstrated passion for solving problems
· Strong grasp of quantitative data analysis
· Humor, creativity, and positive energy to maintain personal and team momentum.
