Principal Economist- Devices

  • Seattle (King)

Job description

DESCRIPTION

The Device Economics team are thought leaders for the wider Amazon Devices organization creating and developing business models to help decide which segments we should enter, which devices or services we should build, and how our existing portfolio should evolve. The analytical services and tools we’re working on focus on areas such as automating demand model generation and economic value estimation that drive roadmap and pricing decisions and measure returns to multi-billion dollar investments.

We are looking for an analytical, innovative, hands-on and customer-obsessed experienced Economist to help define and drive the development of our software services and tools that enable fast iteration on business model design and measurement to scale. The Economist will drive the methodology for measuring returns of large investments. They will interface directly with business stakeholders, software teams, and other PhD Economists to understand their needs and challenges in order to define a vision and roadmap for scaling the methodology in software and socializing its use across the Device business and across Amazon, and then work side-by-side with Software Engineers and Data Engineers on the execution.

They will report directly into the Director of Devices Economics and be a key member of the leadership team by bridging the gap between economics and economists, our business line leaders and our technical experts. This role requires an individual with deep economic theory and econometric skill, the ability to persuade non-economist audiences, and the ability to effectively translate business requirements into technical specifications . They will also be an experienced business leader comfortable with a high level of ambiguity, responsibility, and visibility in order to be the champion for our services with internal users- in addition to presenting to the most senior levels of the organization and be their go-to trusted advisor.

·
· Evangelize the service and provide training to internal clients both within the device organization and more broadly around Amazon
·
· Provide support to internal clients looking to use the services and use that as an opportunity to identify potential improvements to training, documentation, or the service itself
