DESCRIPTION

The experience of Amazon's customers is dependent upon Amazon's ability to accurately, timely, and efficiently sort and deliver packages across North America. A key component of Amazon's ability to sort and deliver packages is being able to staff its Sort Centers in a manner that is both cost effective yet flexible enough to cover the complexities of Amazon's fulfillment network. It is the responsibility of a Labor Planning Analyst to play a lead role these staffing and forecasting decisions.

The successful candidate will have strong quantitative and analytical skills and is comfortable facilitating ideation and working from concept through to execution. The Labor Planning Analyst will partner and drive critical planning processes with the Field Operations, Engineering, and Network Planning teams to determine the most effective staffing solutions, drive process improvements, build KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and metrics, un-earth opportunities and present findings and recommendations to business partners and management.

A qualified candidate must be self-motivated and have demonstrated ability to manage processes that are innovative or complex and at the same time delivered as quickly, accurately, and cost effectively as possible. The successful candidate will identify evolving labor needs of each center he or she supports, anticipate future issues, and recommend changes to create a more efficient process. In addition, the successful candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, strong focus on internal customers, high intellectual curiosity to learn new concepts and methodologies and ability to adapt and thrive in the fast-paced, high change environment.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
· Create labor plans for Sort Centers based on analyzing the individual characteristics of the particular Sort Center and external variables to determine key data to include when creating the labor plan.
· Tailor and modify labor plans to maximize efficiency while protecting Amazon's ability to attract a talented workforce and to promote the wellbeing of the workforce, based on deep understanding of the Sort Center needs and the labor market within which it operates.
· Make strategic decisions regarding labor plans and effectively communicate these recommendations to Sort Center management and ensure that management understands and signs off on the labor plan.
· Use knowledge of trends to identify shifts in labor needs before they occur and to evaluate and modify labor plans to address these shifts with minimal impacts on the productivity and efficiency of the Sort Center.
· Recommend changes to staffing levels and work schedules based on understanding of Sort Center volume and the priorities of the business.
· Determine what data to collect in order to generate the most efficient labor plans that accurately predict short- and long-term staffing needs and optimize work schedules.
· Think logically and creatively to provide high-level strategic planning.
· Lead and manage the planning, creation and execution of labor strategies across the Amazon Sort Center network.
· Lead and manage the transition from excel based tools to web based planning through new systems rolled out in coming months. Develop strategies and processes for training and development of key business practices
· Work with teams across Amazon to identify the opportunities and provide data driven decision support to improve volume planning for sort operations, network volume flow, labor cost savings and productivity, transportation costs and overall customer service.
· Communicate network changes, programs and events that will impact future short term and long term sort and delivery operations.
· Identify and analyze opportunities to service and implement new initiatives/programs.
· Own the design and development of ongoing metrics, reports, dashboards, and other indicators to drive key business decisions. Provide analytical network support to improve quality and standard work results, including updating the types of data analyzed to reflect changing conditions and emerging issues.
· Research and root cause to identify process or planning breakdowns.
· Collaborate with BI/Data Engineer teams and drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources to continually improve data quality.
· Foster culture of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor degree or higher in Business, Industrial Engineering, Operations, Transportation or Business Analytics
· 3+ years of experience required in relevant fields.
· Knowledge of advanced SQL and Excel with experience in efficient processing of large data sets.
· Experience and ability to navigate Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau
· Proven track record of successful communication of analytical outcomes through written communication, including an ability to effectively communicate with business.
· Experience presenting and communicating across all levels of the organization; ability to speak effectively before the appropriate audience
· Effective time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
· Ability to travel as 30% travel expected- visiting sites at times to better connect with the local operation is necessary for successful planning
