AWS Data Center Engineering (DCE) is seeking an experienced individual to fill the role of a Data Center Project Engineer. AWS data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software and services operates to meet the growing demands of our customers. Deploying and operating data centers is synonymous with ensuring capacity, availability, flexibility, and capital conservation. This mission critical role will work with business, design engineering, facility management, and other cross-functional teams to assess and select colocation facilities that meet our business requirements. The candidate will need an in-depth understanding of design, engineering, and operations of power distribution, backup power generation, fuel delivery, mechanical cooling, controls and fire suppression system’s infrastructures common to mission critical data centers and telecommunications facilities.
As a Data Center Project Engineer at AWS, you will directly support site selection review and acceptance, commissioning and Integrated System Testing (IST) of site infrastructure, and final turnover to Data Center Operations. You will be responsible to investigate, identify, document, and resolve any operational/design deficiencies which could impact a site’s capability or availability. You will work as part of a global colocation expansion team to ensure high standards are created and achieved.

Responsibilities
The Data Center Project Engineer will be responsible for the following:
Conduct site assessments against AWS standards for collocation data centers, legacy facility upgrades, and general capital endeavors.
Perform risk analysis and availability calculations for vendor owned and operated collocation data center’s infrastructure.
Continually refine and adapt AWS’ design and specification requirements to meet our business needs.
Document root-cause failure analysis associated with infrastructure and equipment failures.
Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes.
Collaborate with engineering, operations and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical/mechanical/fire suppression systems
Support of Operations including utilization, efficiency, and fail-over analysis on critical systems.
Interface with internal data center design teams, controls teams, R&D teams, hardware teams, environmental health and safety teams to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
Having fun and offering creative, out of the box solutions
Travel to Data Center sites as required - International & Domestic (up to 50%)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline.
· 10+ years of direct experience with the construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical data centers
· Professional Engineering license.
· Certified Data Center Design Professional (CDCDP).
· Understanding of international code requirements.
· Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout.
· An ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality and reliability
· Ability to develop solutions and execute plans on complex projects.
· PMI or other project management experience and certifications.
Proficiency in computer applications such as SQL, Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and CAD/CASE/BIM applications.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering or relevant discipline.
· Cumulative 5+ years of experience directly related to data center and/or telecommunication facilities infrastructure engineering and operations. Colocation experience is a plus.
· In depth understanding of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment. Proficient reading and interpreting of electrical and mechanical one-line drawings
·Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
