An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Wing Architecture team a small skilled team of wing engineers dedicated to defining the technology of the next family of Airbus wings. The position is based in Filton, Bristol and works hand in hand with the Airbus Research & Technology community as well as working closely with the current Aircraft programme teams.

The internship is split into two sub-domains the successful applicant will spend 6 months with the wing GFEM (Global Finite Element Models) team, and 6 months with the Wing Architecture Development team

Task & accountabilities :

During this internship, the activities you may undertake will include

·  Generation of Finite Element Models (FEM) of wing structure.
·   Carrying out Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for the different aircraft programmes.
·   Development of structures, in a multi-disciplined team, to find the optimum balance between structural design, manufacturing costs, in service support and environmental impacts.
·  Feasibility studies on different architecture and technology solutions.
·  Rapid prototyping of design ideas.

Developments are often conducted in 3 month 'sprints' enabling the successful applicant to see a number of projects through to completion during their 12 month internship. Within the Wing GFEM team the successful applicant can look forward to playing an active role in the analysis of models for all Airbus commercial projects.

Please note our Internships are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following

·  Working towards a Bachelor’s degree or greater in a relevant Engineering subject or other related science. The successful candidate will be flexible, motivated, dedicated, proactive, team-oriented, and capable of multi-tasking.
·  The following interests / experiences are advantageous but not essential, as candidates will experience these topics whilst in the role:
·   Knowledge of aircraft, aircraft design and / or structures.
·   “Hands on” engineering experience (e.g Remote Control Aircraft, Go karts)
·   Experience in leading a project / team (e.g. a university project or a sports team)
·   Coding (e.g. Python or Google Apps Script)
·   Data Analytics
·   Finite Element Analysis
·   Systems Engineering & Model Based Systems Engineering
·  Project Management Skills
