Your exciting topic:
The Business Division 'Optical Instruments' of Airbus Defence and Space is Europe's largest manufacturer of Optical Instruments for applications in space. Our portfolio covers imaging spectrometers, LIDARs, meteorological imagers, and high resolution cameras. In our technology development team, we prepare the next generation of Earth Observation Instruments in Space. For these activities, we are looking for a PhD student to address dedicated challenges of new technologies for space applications. Challenging performance requirements and their verification are a key element for the development of optical space instruments. In particular, features like stray light or polarization have to be well characterized, since they might strongly impact the data quality on for end users. In this context, we are offering a PhD thesis on the topic 'Calibration and Characterization of Optical Space Spectrometers'.
Skills
The following professional skills and assets are relevant for this position:
· You have a master degree in Physics or comparable aerospace engineering studies
· You have knowledge about optical instruments for space or airborne applications
· You have experience in performance verification of optical instruments. In particular knowledge of stray light, correction algorithms and the corresponding Level 2 impact will be appreciated.
· You have profound experience in data analysis and good knowledge of software e.g. Matlab, Python, Zemax
· You are enthusiastic about new space technologies and instruments and have the capability to work independently
·
You are a good team player and have excellent communication skills
·
You have negotiation level of English and German
