Job Description

Are you looking for a final year project? Would you like to discover the work of an Engineer? Then apply now! We look forward to you joining us at the AOCS, GNC & Flight Dynamics department.

Location: Friedrichshafen

Start:   October

Description of the department:

The AOCS, GNC & Flight Dynamics department is in charge of control engineering for all kinds of spacecraft. Fuel sloshing is an important aspect in the frame of dynamics plant modeling.

Topic:

Fuel sloshing dynamics for spacecraft applications are typically represented by two extreme end modelling approaches, either by detailed coupled CFM/FEM or by extremely simplified mass-spring-damper / pendulum models. Both approaches can be justified, however they are not suited for general automatic control design purposes. Reduced-order models (ROM) offer an opportunity to bridge this gap. Moreover, they appear to be particularly suited to represent potential sloshing / structure interactions.

You will learn about:

Sloshing & flexible modes modelling for spacecraft, spacecraft control design and verification.

Your Tasks:

·  Review of current fuel sloshing models
·  Review & analysis of ROM theory
·  Derivation / identification (incl. generation of Matlab tools) of ROM from test or simulation data, representing spacecraft sloshing / structure dynamics
·  Controller design and analysis for the derived ROM plants
·  Results and tools documentation.

You offer:

·  Enrolled Master student (d/f/m) within in Aerospace or Control engineering or similar field of study
·  Matlab / Simulink
·  Spacecraft modelling & simulation
·  Spacecraft attitude control
·  Flexible spacecraft dynamics
·  English (German is an asset)

You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
