Are you looking for an internship? Would you like to discover the work of a Space Development Engineer? Then apply now! We look forward to you joining us as an intern (m/f) at the Airbus DS Laboratory for Laboratory for Enabling Technologies (LET) (35 hours/week, flexi-time).

Location: Friedrichshafen

Start: April 2021

Airbus – Space Systems in Friedrichshafen, Germany, operates the Laboratory for Enabling Technologies (LET). The task of the LET is to developed, enhance and proof technologies for future space missions and to support the future programmes, in general. During the last years, the LET builds up a deep heritage and knowledge, in the field of laser metrology and Electric Propulsion (EP).
In order to enhance the in-house EP development, the LET hosts facilities to characterise electric thruster and components required to operated EP Subsystems. Currently, the LET executes together with different European partners the iFACT programme as European Research and Innovation action (H2020).

In the framework of this programme, we are offering an internship or thesis student position. You will participate to the low-power propulsion development activities performed. The tasks will include electronic development, lab testing of electric thruster, cathode characterisation and other activities required in order to continue laboratory operations.

You offer:

·  Enrolled student (m/f) within Aerospace Engineering, Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar field of study
·  Strong interest in scientific research  and especially in electric in-space propulsion
·  First experiences in scientific working and laboratory experience,
·  Good knowledge and understanding of measurement and control engineering
·  Good knowledge of electrical engineering,
·  Good all round knowledge of rocket propulsion systems, with an understanding of the functionality of thrusters, valves, regulators, etc.
·  Basic knowledge of optical/laser engineering and plasma physics,
·  A good understanding and hands-on experience of propulsion test GSE and test instrumentation, including set up / programming ,
·  Writing detailed reports, scientific publications, and presenting at internal peer reviews and external customer reviews,
·  Knowledge in: CAD/ Matlab / LabVIEW / Latex.
