Job Description

Our internships give a unique insight into potential career paths within Airbus. They are designed so that you can put your theoretical knowledge into practice and gain crucial industry experience. The skills and knowledge you gain will improve your chances of a future role within the Airbus and should benefit your future studies.

This role is within the department charged with ensuring that the space products produced in Stevenage have the required strength and stiffness to be able to sustain the loads subjected to the products, including all events during launch. This is performed by a combination of heritage, analysis and testing. Current projects include several telecommunications spacecraft and the Mars rover. Products include complete spacecraft structures, propulsion systems, mechanisms and antennae.

During this internship, the activities you may undertake will include;

¤ Support to process improvement and R&D activities.
¤ Assisting in improving processes and methods by researching and documenting new/alternative methods, writing, assessing or updating computer software.
¤ Using and/or generating finite element models for use in static/dynamic loads analysis using pre and post processing and the NASTRAN solver.
¤ Resolving all issues as your work is utilised by the rest of the office.
¤ Writing up work fully referenced, clearly and concisely.

Please note our Internships are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

¤ A good awareness of material characteristics.
¤ An understanding of how structures behave under static and dynamic loading.
¤ An ability to constructively solve problems.
¤ A sound foundation in mechanical structural engineering principals.
¤ Able to work as part of a team.
