This opportunity exists within the Earth Observation, Navigation and Science (ENS) business unit of Airbus Defence and Space Ltd. in Portsmouth, where we have a long heritage in development, build and test of space-borne radar and passive microwave sensors for Earth observation. Working within a trans-national organisation and with an emphasis on technology you can be involved in a variety of programmes from studies and R&D through to space-flight development, in an innovative environment dealing with unique and challenging new instrument concepts, e.g. Copernicus ROSE-L Synthetic Aperture Radar.

Tasks:

During this internship, the activities you may undertake will include;

·  State-of-the-art technology studies
·  Preparation of budgets for, e.g. RF links, gain & noise figure, mass and power
·  Development & analysis of conceptual designs, including use of RF CAD
·  Prototyping laboratory work
·  Preparation of reports and presentations
·  Participation in meetings with customers and suppliers

Our Internships are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

·  Currently studying an Aerospace or electrical engineering degree
·  Keen interest and capability in RF or antenna design and analysis, radar or radio communications
·  Keen interest in, and some understanding of the space industry and related Airbus activities
·  Experience with office software applications and RF CAD (e.g. ADS, HFSS, Matlab etc.)
·  Ability to take initiative and operate effectively with minimal supervision
·  Passion for engineering design and innovation
·  A practical capability and positive mind-set
·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·  Good interpersonal communications and team-working
