Description of the Job:

We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. You will join our Waveform team within the Modem Product Group and will report to the Head of Modems.

The Modem Product Group is undertaking the design and implementation of a series of satellite communications Software Defined Radio (SDR) modem systems for Government and Military use. You will be part of a small multi-disciplinary team containing system, software, firmware and infrastructure engineers.

You will use your hardware and software infrastructure experience with complex defence systems to focus on development and infrastructure aspects of modem products and associated communications systems. You will be able to work in response to requirements, defining sub-systems, communicating risk and specifying test and verification techniques.

You may not have a complete understanding of the engineering techniques and technical aspects of satellite modem systems, but we'll be happy to teach you through a combination of working with our existing team and by training.

You will need to be eligible to gain UK DV Security Clearance to undertake the role.

Tasks & Accountabilities:

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Work across a broad range of projects within the Modem Group
·  Implement, maintain and troubleshoot infrastructure across multiple projects
·  Plan and undertake projects to upgrade systems as directed by the Systems Engineer
·  Produce relevant operations, troubleshooting and design documentation
·  Perform a variety of duties in systems, RF, infrastructure and test verification.

Your role will involve UK and European/Worldwide travel.

Required Skills/Qualifications

·  Comfortable diagnosing hardware, firmware and software problems in the laboratory prototyping environment.
·  Radio Frequency (RF) communications experience
·  Windows and/or Linux system administration
·  Networking experience – LAN’s, WAN’s, VPN’s, and Firewalls, etc
·  VMWare Sphere knowledge
