Job Description

2 vacancies for a job of Handling Qualities Engineer (m/f) have arisen within Airbus in Toulouse.

You will join the Handling Qualities team, a group of friendly and motivated people.

What do we do?
All along the aircraft life, Handling Qualities team plays an integrator role between flight physics and systems/Engine/Landing Gear which can be summarized through 3 main activities:

1. Aircraft control surfaces sizing and validation/verification to ensure the Aircraft manoeuvrability and stability requirements,
2. Flight domain definition and V&V (minimum speeds, angle of attack protection settings, weight/CG, etc.) in strong relation with cockpit systems and with operational people (Customer Support, Flight test),
3. Failure cases analysis - ensuring that the consequence of any failure case on Aircraft control is in accordance with its probability of occurrence.

And we support the future Aircraft developments and future systems architectures (Roadmaps) through pre-MG3/future projects studies and by developing methodologies in the frame of DDMS (Digital Design Manufacturing and Services).

If you are not already familiar with Handling Qualities or still need to learn, a network of experts and technical referents will ensure your technical development through a learning path adapted to your profile.

You will have the opportunity to develop strong working relationships with colleagues from various teams (Aircraft programs, Aircraft systems, Flight test, lab/simulator test, Flight Physics, Customer support, Product Safety, etc.).

Depending on your aspirations and your profile, there will be possibility to evolve and develop your leadership within the team, through the treatment of multi-program topics or by switching to product leader or work package leader positions, or through the architect development path.

Being an integrator job, Handling Qualities is as well a valuable step for integrating architect paths.

You will be responsible for:

- Supporting Handling Qualities activities as required for New development aircraft, Serial programmes, and/or R&T activities,
- Preparing Handling Qualities inputs for Aircraft certification and continued airworthiness,
- Contributing to aircraft safety assessment and safety improvement initiatives,
- Contributing to lessons learnt, continuous process and competences improvement within the team and with key stakeholders.

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

- Checking aircraft and actuator sizing for HQ needs,
- Defining flight domain where aircraft safety, comfort and reliability is guaranteed (definition of speed, angle of attack, sideslip domains, and procedure in case of failure cases),
- Analysing the consequences of any system failure on aircraft Stability and control,
- Analysing in-service events and system behaviour during these events,
- Preparing, performing and following up simulator tests and flight tests requests necessary to validate those studies.

This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

You will have the following skills and experience:

- 5 years' Degree in aeronautical engineering / mechanical engineering (or equivalent),
- Flight Dynamics knowledge,
- Test and/or Flight Physics knowledge,
- High interest in digitalisation (big data, etc.) would be a strong plus,
- Aircraft systems knowledge would be a plus,
- Language skills: negotiation level in English and French.
