Our client within public sector is looking for Principal Planning Applications Officer to join their Planning and Strategic Transport department based in Croydon. The role is offered on a 3 months contract basis working 36 hours per week Mon to Friday and paid up to £50/hour (umbrella rate/inside IR35).

The post holder will be helping the Strategic Applications Team, as well as the North and South Area Teams, to deal with pre-application enquiries and planning applications. The post is mainly anticipated to pick up major and complex schemes but will require the candidate to help on other non-major work to aid the wider DM service. Responsibilities include:

·  Evaluating and negotiating on own caseload of applications, writing reports and making recommendations including those of a complex and controversial nature.

·  Taking decisions on relatively straight forward planning applications in accordance with the adopted scheme of delegation.

·  Presenting a range of planning applications types to Planning Committee (including large scale major planning applications).

·  Collaborating and working with tree and enforcement officers and colleagues from spatial planning, regeneration, housing, development and legal.

·  Potential line management responsibility.

Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

·  Several years' experience in dealing with Planning Applications including complex and strategic developments

·  RTPI accredited degree or eligible for RTPI membership or equivalent qualification.

·  Comprehensive understanding of current issues & developments affecting planning, regeneration & local government in London

·  Comprehensive understanding of Central Government & development plan policy issues

·  Understanding of Development management & related legislation and good understanding of local government legislation

·  Complex hearings/appeals and/or public inquiries

·  Able to drive; UK driving licence holder

·  Willingness to work extended hours, attend evening and weekend meetings
