JOB TITLE: Information Governance Officer

Responsibility for: N/A

Contract: 3 month rolling

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Information Governance Officer to join our team. You will support the client as we continue to develop and strengthen our approach to Information Governance and compliance with GDPR.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the new Shared Staffing Arrangement. You will know and understand GDPR well and be someone who has a passion and drive for information governance. A strong background in GDPR regulation and data privacy is a must. You will have experience of providing the 'interpretations' or 'translations' of GDPR in a simple manner to enable the stakeholders to carry out their preliminary risk assessments where possible.

Requirements of the role

You will be able to demonstrate expertise and provide support across a number of the key roles, responsibilities and skills required within the overall team including:

·  Monitoring GDPR compliance across the organisation, including the assignment of responsibilities, awareness-raising and training

·  Providing advice at the earliest stage possible to Data Controllers and Data Processors on mitigating risks around data protection processing activities, data protection impact assessments and data breaches, monitoring and working with them to address identified issues

·  Supporting the Information Governance Team in acting as a single gateway for processing all SAR's for both Councils, undertaking ID checks, clarification and ensuring strategic oversight, monitoring and reporting on compliance.

·  Supporting the Data Protection Officer in fulfilling their duties with accountability for both Councils for the strategic approach to data protection across all their business functions, to ensure compliance with data protection legislation

·  Cooperating with the supervisory authority (the Information Commissioner's Office)

·  Managing communications from data subjects with regard to all issues relating to the processing of their personal data and the exercise of their rights

·  Providing timely guidance to officers and managers ensuring that they are equipped with the best possible information to inform timely decision making with regard to personal data

·  Supporting the delivery of the Information Governance Framework and the related Action Plan, to continue to strengthen GDPR compliance in relation to key processes and procedures.

Skills :

·  Expertise in national and European data protection laws and practices including an in-depth understanding of the GDPR

·  Understanding of the processing operations carried out by complex and ideally public sector organisations

·  Understanding of information technologies and data security

·  Ability to promote a data protection culture within the organisation

·  Proven track record of successfully supporting the delivery of programmes and projects

·  Knowledge of local government environment and challenges faced.

·  Experience of supporting the development and implementation of Information Governance and Data Protection policies.

·  Ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner

·  Ability to prioritise work

·  Able to work as part of a team to achieve shared goals and objectives

·  Good knowledge of IT systems.
