Beach Concierge

Looking for an outstanding colleague to provide an enriching island cultural experience for our guests through the Hui Holokai (Ocean Adventures) Program. 

 

Hotel Overview:   Fairmont Orchid is a luxury AAA four-diamond Kohala Coast oceanfront resort with white sand lagoon, Hawaiian Spa Without Walls, golf, extensive meeting facilities, year-round children’s program, five restaurants and tennis, all serviced with Aloha.  We are currently looking for new colleagues to join our 'Ohana and share that Aloha here at Fairmont Orchid. 

 

Summary of Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Recreation Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: 

·  Create an active engaging experience with guests on a daily basis by sharing stories (Talk Story) of Old Hawaii, Legends and Traditions of the property, ocean and island.
·  Entertain our guests by having “kanikapila” time or teaching them a hula or ukulele lesson.
·  Educate the guests by sharing arts and crafts techniques that represent Hawaii and our Island.
·  Provide a very warm, engaging aloha spirit with guests that create a “home away from home” experience.
·  Provide various water adventures that ensure the safety of each guests which may include, but not limited to steering a 4-6 man or double hull canoe; maintain and rig the canoes; surf lessons; paddle board; canoe fishing adventures; off shore fishing; throw net fishing;
·  Be an Ambassador of Aloha by connecting with the guests through the culture of Hawai’i and the Hotel, always making a point to sell hotel activities, restaurants, spa, and/or create a special individual experience that turn moments into memories for our guests.
·  Create a cultural experience by participating in Torchlighting, Blowing of the Pu, Lei Greet, Fire Pit set up, etc (preferred) will train must be able to perform within the time frame given.
·  Executive group functions that include cultural group activities.
·  Regular attendance and promptness in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.  Colleagues with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
·  Colleagues may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the needs of the hotel.
·  Attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
·  Conform to Fairmont standards of dress, uniforms, and personal appearance.
·  Upon employment, all colleagues are required to fully comply with Fairmont rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel’s facilities.  Colleagues who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
·  Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

·  CPR Certification
·  First Aid Certification
·  Water Rescue Certification
Other Skills and Abilities:
·  Ability to steer a Hawaiian Outrigger 4or 6 man canoe at expert levels for up to 2 hours at a time, demonstrate and teach paddling
·  Ability to surf and execute surfing lessons for up to 1 hour at a time

Other Qualifications:
·  Excellent water abilities, able to effectively execute water rescues and support safety
·  Knowledge of and ability to effectively share Hawaiian Culture and History
·  Excellent communication skills
·  Excellent customer service skills
·  High level of energy
·  Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
·  Self-motivation and organizational skills with initiative and the proven ability to work well under pressure.
·  Proud to share the island culture through a gracious and polite manner
·  Love the Island and what it has to offer
·  Very engaging
·  Team player

  Physical Aspects of Position (includes but are not limited to)

·  Frequent standing, walking, sitting throughout shift
·  Uses of hands to finger, handle to feel, grasp
·  Frequent climbing and ability to balance
·  Frequent need to stoop, kneel, squat, crouch and crawl
·  Frequently twist upper body, sit in, paddle and steer 4&6 man Hawaiian Outrigger Canoes
·  Frequently Paddle, sit and stand on a surfboard- catch waves
·  Frequently sit in and paddle kayaks
·  Frequently be submerged in ocean, swim and snorkel
·  Work in extreme weather conditions: Sun, heat, humidity, windy, cloudy, cold
·  Ability to be able to blow conch shell- hold up to 10 seconds
·  Ability to frequently lift, pull, push and sit on ground
