Abbott Molecular has an opening in its Des Plaines, IL site for a Scientist- Spectroscopy Lead who would conduct research for on-market product utilizing multiple experimental techniques.

Investigates and develops new procedures under the guidance of a research lead.

Interacts with other groups and shares information; participates in team activities.

Position Responsibilities:

·  Responsible for own experiment documentation, and for the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of experimental results.
·  Summarizes data and analyzes results, independently formulates conclusions, and determines future experiments.
·  Actively participates in routine maintenance, lab safety; may assume roles of responsibility, such as training or document control.
·  Prepares and delivers presentations of project results to others; presents data to larger and more diverse audiences.
·  Teaches processes and problem-solving techniques. May lead others in project teams.
·  Participates in project planning and updates.
·  Prepares and aligns goals with manager's goals.

Position Accountabilities

·  Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
·  Understands and consistently follows documented procedures.
·  Plans and executes assigned projects; utilizes thorough technical and theoretical understanding of relevant techniques.
·  Applies quantitative methods: analyzes data, evaluates results, forms conclusions, and provides/implements process or document improvements.
·  Executes experiments; participates in experimental design.
·  May assist in the design of experiments for others.
·  Actively uses the appropriate resources to conduct literature searches.
·  Applies basic computer skills
·  Produces reports and documents utilizing advanced writing skills.
·  Utilizes analytical instruments; trains others in their operation.
·  Recognizes and resolves technical problems.
·  Contributes to the definition and timely achievement of overall project goals.
·  Ensures activities are consistent with project plan.

Education/ Skills/ Experience:

The primary role for the successful candidate will be to assist in the development of calibration and design changes for a fluorescence system in a medical device.

·  Fluorescence spectroscopy
·  Fluorescence detection
·  Strong Math Skills
·  Photochemistry
·  Programming skills: Matlab, Python, Mathematica, or similar
·  Data reduction
·  Error analysis

Bachelor’s degree in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Physics, Biomedical Engineering

Experience –

2 years’ experience in fluorescence spectroscopy and analysis of related data or an advanced degree in appropriate field
