Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives:

The MC III role in Operations serves as both an equipment operator and maintenance technician – being responsible for running the equipment as needed to support the Operations Team Members, while also providing equipment expertise to maintain, troubleshoot, and perform preventive/demand maintenance.  Daily tasks of the MC III Filler MeOp may include running the production equipment, helping to troubleshoot equipment faults and issues, working under the direction of the Operations or Maintenance FLL to complete Maintenance Window tasks, working with Engineering on equipment or process related issues or projects, etc.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

1. Completion of tasks that may include: repair of gear heads and reducers; installation of all types of piping including black iron, stainless steel, copper, PVC and flexible tubing; installation of various components including: seals, bearings, O-rings, gaskets, adhesives, belts, chains, rollers, sprockets, gears and sheaves; troubleshooting, repair/rebuild centrifugal/positive displacement pumps; weld stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum; fabricate guards, etc. out of sheet metal and Lexan; cutting of metal with a plasma cutter or torch; wire and repair electric motors; repair basic wiring and replace lighting fixtures and lamps; correctly size fusing, motor overload protection and wire size per National Electric Code (NEC); read electrical schematics and wire directly from wiring diagrams; use of electrical and precision tools to complete assigned work.

2. Proficient in performing repairs to production equipment and plant utility systems; troubleshooting complex, high-speed filling, packaging and conveying equipment; machine adjustments to liquid line seamers, bottle sealers and bottle cappers; adjust timing systems such as rotary sterilizers or tray wrappers for proper operation; ensure proper operation of electrical / mechanical components and devices (push buttons, switches, timers, solenoids, electrical disconnects, AC and DC motors); troubleshoot and repair filters, taptones, barcode scanners and video-jet ink printers.

3. Work well with little supervision.  Follow all plant and department procedures, GMP's and plant safety rules.  Lead other employees including directing other operations personnel on a job and providing OJT for employees new to the department. Record and communicate shift activity in an organized manner. Properly use the plant work order system and follow all stockroom procedures.  Audit equipment and develop replacement part lists.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED and two-year mechanical/electrical technical degree or equivalent experience.

Background:

Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals.

Including but not limited to troubleshooting electrical and/or mechanical high-speed filling, packaging equipment and utilities; making machine adjustments; timing mechanical systems for proper operation; electrical/mechanical skills with utility systems; machining or welding parts, experience with reading blueprints and schematics, experience with pumps, motors and drives; knowledge of the use of precision tools/instruments.

Accountability / Scope/Budget:

Accountable for maintaining various hand tools and equipment used in daily execution of tasks.  Failure to maintain will result in replacement of tools and equipment.

Accountable for maintaining operations equipment such as fillers and labelers and associated parts.  Failure to maintain will result in repair, replacement and downtime.

This position is accountable for ensuring compliance with applicable FDA (GMP), USDA, OSHA and Abbott regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
