JOB DESCRIPTION:

Main Purpose of Role:  Mechanical Engineer that design, build, and test alternate solutions for Abbott Products.  Must be able to understand intended functionality, propose multiple lower cost / high reliability solutions, and prove their technical feasibility.  Upon confirmation by Engineering Design Owner, Engineer should be able to prototype, cost, and test the new solution while capturing data and results to input into design documentation.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Use CAD (i.e. Solidworks) tools to design components / subsystems
  • Rapid Prototype samples (Additive, Tabletop CNC, etc.)
  • Coordinates / Leads design of test fixtures
  • Analyzes, evaluates and plans methods of approach to, and organizes a means to achieve, the solution of complex technical problems.
  • Responsible for delivering working assemblies to the engineering teams that can be used in test verification and reliability testing activities.
  • Responsible the Cost Forensics Lab for permitting access to qualified users and ensuring cleanliness, availability and usability of lab and its tools to qualified users.
  • Leads or serves as principal technical resource for instrument development and product support projects.
  • Investigates and troubleshoots electro-mechanical components and assemblies to provide recommendations for corrections to technical management.

  • Provides advice/direction in primary areas of expertise.
  • Communicate and educate appropriate departments to provide appropriate supporting documentation for purchases.

Relationship Management:

  • Develop and leads agreed purchasing strategies for category
  • Seek, develop and establish business relationships with diverse suppliers
  • Meet regularly with divisional customers and lead functions to ensure superior customer satisfaction and continuous improvement for efficiencies.
  • Responsible for performance management of all supportive personnel (non-exempts)

Leading People:

  • Responsible for leading and mentoring Associate Specialist and Specialist procurement personnel. Provides guidance and training to Specialist.
  • Understand and apply cultural awareness with foreign business entities
  • Drive and grow strong effective business relationships with suppliers, clients and customers.

Compliance:

  • Responsible to drive compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures.

Accountability:

  • Executes against the goals set by the Category Leads /Managers/Directors
  • Drive innovative ways to maintain and improve procurement processes, cycle times, total acquisition costs, and customer service levels.

Staff Size:

  • May have supervisory responsibilities for non-exempts

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Engineering, Science, Business, or Financial Degrees. 
  • CPM certification desired

Minimum Experience/Training Required:

  • 4-6 years of Engineering and/or Procurement experience.  
  • Functional experience.
  • Project management skills.          
  • Excellent people skills                       
  • Excellent problem-solving skills       
  • Proficient in the use of spreadsheet programs
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong interdisciplinary, intercultural, influence, and networking skills
