JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Job Function:

A non-exempt position that reports to the Chief of Maintenance for the Abbott Aviation Department. Three main areas of responsibility:

1) Maintenance responsibilities: Perform inspections, preventative and repair maintenance on department automotive vehicles, motorized aircraft tow tractors, vertical man-lifts, fork-lifts and other equipment. Requires operation of department automotive vehicles, aircraft tow tractors, man-lifts and fork-lifts, and aircraft deicing equipment. Inspection, troubleshooting and repair of aviation facility utilities, such as minor plumbing repairs (faucets, toilets, sinks, etc.), minor carpentry repairs drywall, etc.), minor electrical maintenance and repairs (change bulbs, ballasts, light switches, lighting fixtures and receptacles, etc.) Also inspect and maintain rooftop HVAC equipment; filters, etc. Inspect and maintain large main hangar doors. Assist aircraft technicians with specific aircraft cleaning during aircraft maintenance activities, (such as wheel well and landing gear areas so that they can be inspected). 2) Maintain appearance of four company aircraft and hangar facilities: Responsible for exterior and interior appearance of company aircraft and hangar facilities (36,000 square feet of hangar space plus shop areas). Includes carefully cleaning and polishing of aircraft surfaces. Includes cleaning and maintaining the interior of the aircraft. The hangar facilities and aircraft are maintained in a "spotless" condition.

3) Assist in recovery and dispatch of company aircraft, including refueling and assisting with aircraft de-icing operations. Responsible for restocking aircraft after a trip. Assist with aircraft towing and marshalling. Responsible for procurement of aircraft stores and facility commissary stores. Ability to handle projects without direct supervision, and attention to detail is paramount. Work hours can be any time of day or night and any day of the week. Job is performed in or outside of the Abbott aviation hangar facility. Job may require working outside in the elements in adverse weather conditions. Recovery and dispatch of aircraft happens on a regular basis and is in a high noise environment requiring hearing protection.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining interior and exterior appearance of the four company aircraft, and hangar and shop environments to the highest standards of cleanliness.
  • Perform inspections, preventative, minor and major repair maintenance on department vehicles, aircraft tow tractors, man-lifts, and fork-lifts.
  • Maintains all department ground support equipment.
  • Inspection, troubleshooting and repair of aviation department utilities, plumbing, HVAC, electrical receptacles, etc.
  • Maintain, and remove and reinstall department appliances when necessary. (Dishwashers, water heaters, refrigerators, etc.).
  • Required to operate department automotive vehicles, aircraft towing tractors, mechanized man-lifts and fork-lift equipment.
  • Assist in moving aircraft in and out of hangar, in fueling of aircraft, and with de-icing of aircraft.
  • Restocks aircraft with cabin supplies as required.
  • Removes food stores on aircraft with expired dates.
  • Procures and maintains supplies of items consumed on the aircraft.
  • Procures and maintains supplies of items used to clean the aircraft, office and hangar environment.
  • Attends to passenger needs as appropriate.
  • Assists in loading and unloading of passenger baggage.
  • Completes collateral duties as assigned by Chief of Maintenance or the Director, or on a volunteer basis.

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma, or equivalent, Automotive Trade School a plus, Technical Knowledge and / or housekeeping experience a plus

Minimum Experience / Training Required:

A minimum of 3 years' general experience in aircraft line maintenance or facility maintenance.
