In Ireland, Abbott employs almost 3,000 people across 10 sites. Abbott has six manufacturing facilities located in Clonmel, Cootehill, Donegal, Longford and Sligo and a third party manufacturing management operation in Sligo. It has commercial, support operations and shared services in Dublin. Abbott serves the Irish market with a diverse range of health care products including diagnostics, medical devices, nutritionals and branded generic pharmaceuticals. Abbott has been operating in Ireland since 1946. 

We currently have a vacancy for 
Financial Controller role and this position will involve the following:

Primary Function

As a member of the site senior management team, reporting to the Site Director, the Plant Controller has overall responsibility and control of the plant Finance function. 

The Plant Finance Controller has primary responsibility for Plant financial reporting, budget preparation, variance analysis, budget updates, general accounting, inventory and fixed asset accounting, weekly payroll processing, and plant accounts payable.  He/She must assure

  • adequate and appropriate financial controls are in place and executed
  • prepare accurate and timely financial information per Division guidelines including month-end close
  • financial plan updates, LBE (Latest Best Estimates i.e. forecasts) and standard costs updates
  • control, administer, interpret and report the financial performance to local site management, to Abbott Ireland Finance and to Division Finance, ensuring compliance with all applicable policies and procedures
  • assists the Site Director in making sound financial decisions, by providing accurate and timely financial analysis
  • responsible for strategic financial decision-making, that will have long-term impact on the Plant
  • responds effectively to operational and market changes to meet the financial commitments of the plant and streamlines processes to provide timely and meaningful financial information to Plant and Division staff.

Major Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility and control of Plant Finance Function
  • Tactical and strategic site leadership & management as a member of the site senior management team
  • Prepare, review and analyse actual Financial reporting on a timely basis
  • Prepare plans, LBE’s (forecasts), LRP(Long Range Plan) and Product Cost Glidepaths.
  • Develop and upgrade reporting structures and tools
  • Capital request preparation and analysis
  • Control of  maintenance options on plant manufacturing system
  • Continually drive cost improvements throughout the organization, in order to ensure our products are produced at the lowest possible cost, and within the allotted budgets.
  • Staff development and training
  • Cultivate business relationships with site external stakeholders, including local Abbott Ireland stakeholders, Regional & Global Divisional stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable financial policy and procedures.
  • Conduct business in accordance with the Abbott code of Conduct and in a manner that will protect human health, safety and the environment by complying with all applicable EHS laws, as well at the Abbott Global and Technical standards.
  • Provision of regular updates to functional budget owners to nurture proper financial stewardship at cost centre level
  • Drive a culture of engagement both within the function, and throughout the site

EHS Responsibilities

  • Ensure Environmental Health & Safety standards are met and all EHS regulations and procedures are adhered to. Foster an awareness of Environmental Health & Safety in the plant and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for EHS performance and compliance through active participation, compliance with, and support of Abbott’s EHS Program
  • Ensure employees report any work related injuries or illness to employee health and are promptly investigated
  • Ensure that safety & environmental goals are established and achieved.
  • Conduct staff meetings in which EHS is part of the weekly agenda

Education / Experience Required

  • Professional qualification in accountancy or degree in accounting
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in an accounting function, preferably manufacturing accounting.
  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing accounting systems and particularly standard costing.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills. A proven leader.
  • Strong team building skills with proven abilities in decision-making and sound personal judgments.
  • A collaborative mindset, with a partnering approach to achieving collective outcomes

Accountability / Scope

  • Timely fact based decision making
  • Systems in place to ensure proper accounting techniques applied.
  • Significant inventory values and payables to be processed
  • Management reports generated by plant controller do need review and authorisation of the Plant Manager.
  • Responsibility for all general ledger inputs, but the analysis and reporting need approval of the Plant Manager.  Plans/Updates/LBE will be approved by ANSC Finance.
  • Entity reports will be approved by AIMO Finance.
  • Formal goals are set and reviewed.
  • Annual performance reviews carried out, with interim feedback process in place.
  • Responsible for all site disbursements.
