We are looking for an Equipment Engineer in a first shift in our Barceloneta, Puerto Rico manufacturing site, who will serve as primary engineering personnel supporting manufacturing equipment operations in AVPR. The engineer will be responsible for the equipment reliability program focused on critical assets, including but not limited to risk analysis, measuring probability and consequences of failures in a consistent manner as well as do failure analysis and root cause analysis, defining what constitutes functional failure for a critical system or process. Support the Maintenance Excellence program or other similar type program designed to efficiently maximize asset performance and KPIs monitoring process. The individual performing this role will have to create a strong teamwork with the maintenance technicians, maintenance supervisors, production supervisors, quality engineers and manufacturing engineers to address all the opportunities related with equipment performance for the manufacturing area.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develops and implements evaluation plans and systems by creating reliability and safety plans and specifications. Develops and maintains a predictive monitoring database. Evaluates the interval-based PM or run-to-failure basis. This will be based on predictive maintenance technologies as appropriate, including but not limited to: equipment analysis, data collection, first-level analysis, and recommendations.

  • Provides solution to engineering problems and ensures that corrective measures are taken, recommends design changes by analyzing the situation and recommends corrective or alternative actions. Analyzes the changes and their impact on reliability to ensure they meet acceptable reliability standards. Performs root cause evaluation for critical systems and failed critical components. Tracks and prioritizes resolution of these failures and recommends changes related to asset performance. Uses analysis of results and trends to identify specific interventions, or to adjust preventive maintenance schedules or intervals. Resolves operational, equipment, manufacturing, quality and maintenance problems ensuring costs effectiveness and prevention of adverse effects on the business or product quality. Identifies new equipment and processes as necessary.

  • Identifies options, prepares analysis, provides expertise and makes recommendations relating to new maintenance procedures, lease vs. buy, new technologies, equipment overhauls, repair vs. replace decisions, installation of new equipment, and disposal of obsolete equipment.

  • Implements / improves maintenance strategies to ensure optimum equipment uptime including preventive/predictive maintenance, equipment reliability analysis, equipment obsolesce determination, replacements RCE submittals, project management, development and execution. Helps to prepare documentation to justify capital spending requests based on system performance and lower maintenance life cycle cost.

  • Incorporates business policies and procedures into task completion. Understands the business needs of the company and has knowledge of the customer needs of our business. Understands the business cycle and foresight of emerging technologies trends.

  • Helps document all procedures, catalog equipment and PM routines into Abbott system.

  • Reviews, where applicable subcontractor's proposals for reliability program.

  • Recommends changes in equipment operating procedures, design or configurations that improve cost performance, operational performance, efficiency, and reliability, while remaining within OEM warranty specifications.

  • Performs discrepancies investigations related to plant Compliance Systems.

  • Cultivates internal and external network of resources to complete tasks.  Leads a project team, determining goals and objectives for the projects. Mentors employees by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance.

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies and procedures.

  • May be responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and planning preventative/ predictive maintenance activities and/or special corrective actions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor in Engineering discipline (Electrical Engineering preferred).
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a related engineering role (medical devices industry preferred).
  • Preferable to have six-sigma green belt certification.

  • Equipment life cycle experience preferred, this includes design, qualification, operation and retirement of equipment.

  • Knowledge of PLC, controllers and root cause analysis and troubleshooting through the use of engineering knowledge and experience.

  • Ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally to assist with resolving engineering issues.

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in both English and Spanish.

  • Ability to evaluate complex processes.

  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees.
