JOB DESCRIPTION:

Job Summary:

To maintain and improve plant electrical systems and equipment in order to provide a high degree of safety, quality and productivity. Typical activities include (but are not limited to): electrical machine and machine component repair, HVAC electrical systems troubleshooting, programmable logic controller (PLC) and computer interface programming, installation or rearrangement of new or existing equipment/systems and total plant and facility maintenance.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work well with little supervision
  • Keep all work areas clean and neat
  • Housekeeping of the shop is primarily the responsibility of the electricians working in the area
  • May lead one other employee (including directing another maintenance person)
  • Follow all plant and department procedures, GMPs, JSAs, and general plant safety rules
  • Providing some OJT for people new to the department, and recording and communicating shift activity in an organized manner
  • Audit equipment
  • Be certified for lockout/tag out procedures
  • Wire and repair electric motors, gear heads and mechanical reducers
  • Repair wiring and replace lighting fixtures and lamps
  • Develop proficiency in running rigid and flexible conduit
  • Learn to use standard wire-pulling technique, correct fusing, motor overload protection and wire sizing per National Electric Code (NEC)
  • Learn to read electrical schematics and wire directly from wiring diagrams, increase knowledge of relay logic, ladder diagrams and programmable logic controller software
  • Use of electrical tools and diagnostic equipment to complete electrical maintenance jobs
  • Provide support to primary plant operations
  • Total plant equipment coverage includes (but is not limited to): packaging lines, process, drying, filling telephone systems, security systems, computer systems, data cabling, UPS, MIS support, HVAC, energy center and warehouse support, building maintenance, electrical distribution lighting, fire system, land application, ATC time card system, MITS system, medium and low breaker testing and switching and interfacing with electrical contractors
  • Responding to equipment emergencies
  • Performing electrical PMs during operation or during periods of scheduled downtime
  • Communicating routinely with line personnel and supervision to maintain knowledge of the latest production schedule
  • Communicating potential equipment problems to production and maintenance supervisors to allow scheduling of repairs
  • Looking for and implementing equipment and system improvements

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years' experience as an industrial or commercial electrician, or the equivalent job experience or training is required
  • State of Michigan Electrical License preferred
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals
  • A basic understanding of electricity and electrical theory
  • Knowledge of the existence of the NEC and the basic requirements of electrical installation requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work with up to 480 voltage AC and 700 volts DC, in accordance with all safety requirements
  • Beginners knowledge of computers and computer operating systems and PLC programming
