JOB DESCRIPTION:

An exciting new opportunity to join Abbott's fastest growing division, Diabetes Care! This position on our new sustaining R&D engineering team will be a key electrical design engineer who will both support on market medical product designs as well as new work with new product introductions for Abbott Diabetes Care's FreeStyle Libre product. This position will work with key cross functional teams to identify design improvements, create the design updates, test to requirements, and document and release to manufacturing.

Summary:

Contribute to resolving technical issue and continuous improvement of existing products. Will develop expertise in EMC under mentor.  Applies engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems.  Remains abreast of and consults on changes to EMC standards and testing techniques.  Identifies and routinely uses the most effective and cost-efficient practices to execute processes; continually evaluates their effectiveness and appropriateness. Support hardware sustaining engineering activities for an on-market In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) equipment and may work with biohazardous material to perform some engineering investigations.

Main Responsibilities:

Investigate product complaints, perform root cause analysis of failures, and propose remediation in a timely fashion

Analyze complaint data and generate prioritized actions to address findings

Perform EMC testing both in house and at external facility. 

Understand and interpret international standards.  Ensure products and test equipment meet applicable standards.

Assist with qualifying, maintaining and improving inhouse EMC test facility, including developing automated tests.

Performs troubleshooting and fault isolation activities.

Conducts development and verification testing, documents and tabulates results, performs statistical analyses, and creates test reports.

Documents custom tools with specifications, design descriptions, and testing to support document control and tool release.

Communicates effectively and participates on cross-functional teams. Acts as resource regarding EMC regulations.  Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, contractors, and vendors.

Complies with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and performs other duties as assigned by management.

Perform hardware equivalency analysis and testing with report generation

Prepare Design Change documentation package and route for approval.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical engineer preferred.

Minimum 3-5 years relevant work experience

Experience circuit design, design analysis, failure analysis, hardware test.

Familiar with PCBA schematics, PCBA layout and fab drawings,

PADS or Altium layout experience desired

Experience with EMC testing and knowledge of national and international EMC medical and radio standards desired

Experience in medical device or other regulated environment desired.

Hands on experience with laboratory test equipment including: Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers/Receivers, Signal Generators, Power Amplifiers, signal generators etc;

Demonstrated ability to learn outside of formal training.

Experience managing multiple projects. Strong organizational and follow-up skills.

Problem solver with strong attention to detail.

C, C++, Python and/or LabVIEW programming experience desired
